New Posts - resorting? duplicates on each page...

Thread Starter

Hi. I am reading New Posts.  Each time I go to the next page, it shows several posts from the prior page.

Is it refreshing the *new* search each time and showing me the new page 7, for example?

It makes it difficult to read through the new posts.

thanks!

Hi HappyMommy!  We're looking into the issue.  Can you post any screenshots of duplicates you're seeing or is it just duplicating the last few posts from the previous page?  Thanks!

Hi - I will see if I can do some screen shots.  It is not exactly like the last 3 posts from page one showing up at the top of page 2.  They are rearranged slightly and so it makes me think it was sorted again.

This is happening to me too--the first few listed were on the last page. It's pretty frustrating. I'm using the latest version of Firefox and Windows. Screenshots are way too complex for me though, sorry redface.gif

This has been happening to me also.  The longer I take to go through a page of the new posts the more of them that will be repeated on the next page. It's definitely annoying.

Here are my screenshots from the search I have right now.  "pregnant and over 35 tribe" at the bottom of the 1st page.

I read a few threads and then went to page two, and most of the threads are repeated.  "pregnant and over 35 tribe" is about halfway down page 2, showing up near the top of the screenshot.  Not really too many new threads on this page, I'm continually chasing them farther back through the pages of search results.

The duplication is likely not a malfunction but just the way the New Posts page works. It displays results based on the most accurate forum activity at the time of request instead of who is searching and what they have already seen.

Have you tried the new Recent Activity page? http://www.mothering.com/community/forum.php?action=newposts

This lists most recent threads & posts. When you get to the end you can click "More" and the next list will display. Get to the end of that and click "More" and so on, so you don't . You can click the "Summary View" and see only threads. Hover over the thread and you get options to click through to read a thread's first or last post or subscribe to the thread.

Unclick "Summary View" and instead of a list of threads with new posts made to them you see individual posts, the title in the list being the first so many words of the post made to the thread. Just beneath it you'll see the poster's name, time, and the thread name hyperlinked to the actual thread.

That might work better for you than the New Posts. thumb.gif

Yes, I have tried the new "Recent Activity".... but it doesn't show the first few lines of the the first post when you hover over the thread title.   So ... I guess I have to choose which is more important to me! Duplicates vs. hovering ... hmmm...

I'm wondering if this is something that the Admins are looking into or if it just "is what it is".

Thanks for the suggestions!!  I will go try that other option you mention where you see the posts themselves.

Right now, as far as I can see, it just is what it is. It's not a malfunction. It's just the way this new platform works. As we find functionality we used to have but is not available to us in our new digs, we are placing it in our "request for development" list. I hope that all makes sense.  shy.gif

Yes, that makes sense, and I appreciate your honest answer!  :-)  If you do decide to add this to the development wishlist, can you let us know?

thanks again!

Certainly! Anytime there are bug fixes they will be release notes sent by the developers. We can post them here or perhaps in a Wiki. Either way, we'll get the word spread. jammin.gif
