I've had one 'water birth' and one 'water labor' ...... the water birth was 'accidental' in the hospital (my 2nd child) I was using the tub to get out of a labor stall...... it worked so well that I missed the point of needing to get out (my doula did confess later to realizing I was going to birth in the pool, against hospital policy I might add, but felt it would be better on me to let it go that way).
I loved loved the water birth, it was so gentle, the water was just the right temp in their jacuzzi tub, and I had the option of jets (turned off a while before the birth but good for laboring).
My last birth was at home and I desperately wanted another water birth.. we had a fishy pool (kid pool) and couldn't keep it warm enough for me to truly relax.. plus there was no jets . I ended up stalling IN the water that time and having to get out and walking, sway, and finally use the warm shower to get things going again (birthed on the toilet, next to the shower).
This time I want to be more open to other options and not be 100% set on the water birth, but I also want a better plan on keeping the water hot, and maybe even some way of having jets if possible (but seems doubtful). I'd still love another water birth, but I don't want to set my heart on it again, as I dealt with some frustration and disappointment after the birth last time since things didn't go 'as I planned.'
