thrombosed hemorrhoid - freaking out

I am 38 w 5 days and am having the worst hem flareup imagined.  Pretty sure it's what you'd call thrombosed.  From what I'm seeing online, the "cure" is as bad as the present pain.  They even suggest c-section to avoid further damage (which sounds crazy to me).  This is absolutely horrible timing.  How can I VBAC with this excruciating pain????  Help!!!

I'm so sorry you're going through this.  I wish I knew something which would help.

so sorry you are dealing with this.  i had hideous thrombosed hems with DD.  my midwife suggested that i soak in a hot bath, apply ointment, push the hems back with my finger,  and then do kegels for a bit to kind of keep them back in there.  i realize that this sounds unimaginable and hideous.  as it turned out, it kind of worked.  they didn't go away, but they felt a bit better.  i went on to deliver vaginally.  the hems were still there.  my midwife said she took one look at the size of them and knew that there was no way she would ever even consider an episiotomy (not that she does them routinely.)  they were bad for a week after delivery but went away soon after.  all this to say that they are a terrible nuissance but probably won't interfere with your birth.  I read that c-section thing online and it freaked me out too.  my m/w and her ob partner laughed when i mentioned it and said that never in all of their years of looking at hems did they ever hear of a c-section being recommended.

I spent A LOT of time soaking in hot baths just to relive the pain during those last couple of weeks.  I also took colace daily to keep things moving.  Good luck to you!

I had a few of them after my last pregnancy.  Extremely swollen and painful.  I used cloth wipes (scraps of flannel) kept on them soaked in ACV and witch hazel alternately througout the day.  Also baths several times a day.

Thanks, all! The MW talked me off the ledge this morning. Yes, pushing them back in seems to be the key. I stayed on the couch all day too. Hoping I can sleep tonight.
