Just a reminder about The Childhood Years!

I just wanted to post a quick reminder, my co-mod and I will be working on forum guidelines, but in the mean time I wanted to take a moment to remind *everyone* that 3 year olds are still considered toddlers. For the purposes of these forums, The Childhood Years will include the ages 4 through 8!

Can I ask why the restriction in age? Developmentally the restriction of ages 4-8 doesn't make sense to me. 3 year olds seem to me to have more in common with 4 year olds than 2 year olds. I got a lot out of hearing from parents of older children when I posted HERE about my 3 year olds (when they were that young). 

On the other end, I've browsed the Preteens/Teens forum, and I can say that my 9 year old's issues really seem to belong here more than in Preteens. This may be a boy/girl thing - I'm sure by the time my 6 year old daughter is 9, we'll be having pre-adolescent issues. But my 9 year old son is not showing signs of puberty, and is very much a child.

Is there really such traffic on this board to need to restrict ages?

I agree with Lynn. I have been posing here about my ds since the spring. To me this was much more appropriate. Ds had way more in common with the 4+ range than the toddlers. To me once he hit 3 he was no longer a toddler. JMO


Soon it will be irrelevant as next week he turns 4.

I have to agree also-I have a 3 and 9 year old and definitely read and post on this board over the toddler/preteen & teen board.

Yes, these are your opinion, however most literature states that a child is a toddler until the age of 4, and that childhood spans years 5-9. I understand that issues may fall more into one 'age group' than another, and with your child you'll have to use your own discretion. As I stated we will be working on the guidelines.
