Hi, I am new here. I have a question about sippy cups??

Hi, I have 22 month old twin girls and I am having trouble with getting one to use a sippy cup.  I purchased the Nuby because I heard that it was closest to the bottle.  She doesn't grasp the fact that she has to tilt her head back and lift the cup up to get anything out of it.  She just chews on the spout.  This is my fault, I used Playtex bottles with them and with the liners I would just squeeze the air out so that they would have to tilt their head back....big mistake, I know!  My other daughter is not having this problem however.  Is there any mommies here that have any suggestions??  They are approaching 2 years old and I would have liked to have both of them off of the bottle by then.

Another concern I have is with the same daughter, she is still not talking.  She does a lot of babbling but no talking.  Anyone here have similar issues with their children??  I plan on saying something to her pediatrician on her 2 year appt but I was hoping someone here would have a similar problem and could tell me what advice they were given or if I am stressing about it too soon.

Have you tried just a regular cup with her? After she gets the regular cup it might be easier to switch to the sippy for those times when you're worried about spills.

As for speaking - every child is different - there seems to be such a wide range of speech ability at this stage. Ds is 24 mos & has about 4 dozen words but the progress is slow. BUT his understanding is very comprehensive & improving & he "talks" a lot (saying little) so I feel confident that more real words are not far off.

No, I haven't tried her on a regular cup.  I will try putting some water in that today and see if she will drink out of it.  Thanks!

We use straw cups here.  We have some tupperware cups with lids that have a little rubber hole for the straw.  It can dribble a bit if it's turned upside down but still better than a regular cup.  I also second the open cup idea.  Much easier for the little one to see what's going on.  Lots of kids never use sippies.

I also recommend straw cups since they don't have to be tipped. DS loves his straws.

My ds uses a straw cup too.  When we are home I just let him drink from my water cup.

My DD never used a bottle, but she was a big fan of the staraw cups. She also likes drinking from regular cups and spilling them too. She will use sippy cups sometimes, but she has never been a big fan.

They seem more than old enough for regular cups at 22 months, and there's no "trick" to those.  Might be easier.
