Sinus infection?

I'm 18w and miserable with a sinus infection that won't quit. I've been doing the neti-pot and tylenol but the dr doesn't want me to take any other decongestants since my blood pressure is border line. Any thoughts? I can get in to see the dr tomorrow but he's going to put me on an abx for sure which I'd like to avoid. Thanks for any tips.

I'm actually going through the same thing right now at 33 weeks. It's MISERABLE. I feel lucky that I've gotten this far in my pregnancy with only 1 big sinus blow up. I'm faithfully using my neti pot--which is the gravity-induced kind. One of my coworkers, who is a respiratory therapist, suggested a squeezable kind of nasal irrigation because it is pressure-induced and may be a bit more forceful in working out the really compacted, thick stuff. My husband took my "safe for pregnancy" medication list to the pharmacy the other night in an attempt to find me some relief, but the pharmacist there reviewed it and said she didn't recommend ANY of it even this far into the 3T. Sigh. Drink LOADS of fluids (to thin out the mucus) and sleep with a humidifier on. I've also been using some knock-off vapor rub on my chest at night. It doesn't last as long as I need it to, but for about 20 minutes (especially after using the neti) I feel halfway decent...

Wish I had better insight for you! Hope you feel better soon!

I'm going to have to resort to abx soon if I can't find some relief. It's just not going away. This is miserable!

I haven't looked into the safety while pregnant but i always take oil of oregano when i get sinus infections...I would also up my Vit C and D; drink honey and lemon tea and FAR more water than usual

I'm on my 4th sinus infection in this pregnancy, and I'm only 27 weeks... THe neti-pot doesn't work when the nasal passage is completely blocked... I get out the humidifier and drink a lot and up my vitamin C (sodium ascorbate variety) and vitamin D3. My midwives don't recommend antibiotics before 14 weeks of not getting better. I'm slowly getting better now (day 10 now) and the mucus is coming out. I do a lot of hot baths with lavender oil too, it helps me a lot. I sleep on 4 pillows, as the blockage gets worse if I lie down. Luckily this is the first infection that allows me to not take Tylenol and have one side open if I sleep on the other (like my left nostril opens up when I rest my head on the right side). I did use some nose spray for the night and netipot during the other infections. The pressure was too bad otherwise, my head was exploding, my eyes and ears got painful pressure from the stuffed up sinuses and I had no sleep at all (the first three infections lasted 3.5 weeks each). I'm sick of being sick!

I saw oil of oregano the other day at the health mart, I gotta google this. Someone also suggested collodial silver nose sprays, I haven't tried it yet, but I have the stuff here. I just have to fill it into a salt water nose spray bottle...

I have two kids and just the thought of any medication during pregnancy scares me.

Please check with your doctor whether you can use a drug free decongestant or nasal spray? I personally use Sinox Nasal Spray which is a non-systemic and drug free nasal spray.

Once again, you and your doctor need to be absolutely sure before using any medication during a pregnancy.

Good luck.
