Hello from a Small Town Mom

Thread Starter

Good Morning!

My name is Marie and I'm a mom to Kai (9) and Jack (14 months). I haven't been on a forum for about 5 years smile.gif I've tried facebook but got bored with it. I am interested in chatting with other moms who share similar interests, as living in a small, southern town does not afford me much opportunity to do so.

My husband Alan and I have been married for 10 years (this September). Alan is a teacher (he teaches 7th grade World History- blek!). I'm a 3rd year teacher (I started late) and teach English I to 9th graders. I love teaching and love teaching 9th grade! People say I am crazy for loving it, and I probably am.

As parents we teach or children rather than punish them (that is our job after all), practice extended breastfeeding (Kai nursed until 2 months shy of her 5th birthday and Jack is going strong at 14 months), and we eat organic as much as possible.

I want to learn more about probiotics (we selectively vax) and how to keep my house more organized and clutter-free (Mission Impossible?)

Anyway, though I would say hi! before I burst into any conversations smile.gif

Peace,

Marie

Welcome to MDC!

It's so great to hear that you love teaching 9th grade.  It must make such a difference to the kids that you love being there.

I'm new here as well and just checking it out.  I discovered Mothering magazine a few weeks ago at the library and I have to say it's refreshing to find others out there who have similar views (with regards to breastfeeding, nutrition, vaccination, etc).  If you want to know more about probiotics and are interested in doing it through foods instead of expensive supplements you should check out the Nourished Kitchen blog or the Weston A. Price Foundadtion website.  I've been getting into lactofermenting foods (veggies, milk, etc) and have read that these are so much higher in pro (and pre) biotics than any supplement you can buy.
