Un-crafty girl needs help!

Hey everyone - I am clueless when it comes to sewing & crafting.  BUT - I've decided that instead of spending a ton of $$$ on a door draft stopper, that it might be easier to make one, and make it to match my decor.  So - who here has made one?  How "thick" did you make it, and what did you fill it with?

I made a ton of them for our old house and a bunch for my mom's house.I filled them with rice and they worked really well.I think how big the diameter needs to be,depends on where you're going to put them.
