List Christian Movies (not targeted to kids)

Hello all!

I'd like to see a list of newer/recent movies that are nice and clean... and good!  Plus, made so adults can watch them too.  Something like The Love Series, Fireproof, Faith Like Potatoes, Saving Sarah Cain...

And, which ones do you recommend...!  Thanks.

Franco Zeffirelli's "Brother Son Sister Moon." it's from 1973 but it's definitely evergreen. Hands down, my favorite Christian movie of all time.

Hallmark Channel had one which had girl from the "Father of the Bride" remake playing an Amish woman whose daughters was one of the ones killed in the PA school shooting.

Look for films directed by Michael Landon, Jr..  There was a whole series of the Janette Oke books... "Love Comes Softly" and two others.  Also any of the "Fox Faith" films.

I saw another one...had James Garner in it... "The Ultimate GIft."  Not particularly Christian, but good message.

Older films... Audrey Hepburn in "A Nun's Story," Ingrid Bergman "Inn of the Sixth Happiness", "A Man Called Peter," and many many more. :)

One of my favorites is "Babette's Feast".  It isn't new though.  It is sub-titled.  I  really enjoyed "Dead Man Walking" though there is profanity and some very difficult parts and I cried, a lot.  The Nun's Story, as noted above, was really good.  I also liked Jesus of Montreal, though it isn't exactly a Christian film, it was very interesting.  Love Actually is not as far as I know Christian but is I think a great movie which speaks to a number of Christian themes.

Also, you might look into some British shows and mini-series if you have access there are plenty that are on religious subjects or settings.

I loved the Love comes softly series on Hallmark. The series was : Love comes softly , Love's enduring promise , Love's long journey , Love's unfolding dream,Love's abiding joy,Love's unending legacy,Love takes wing,Love finds a home.All of them is on DVD and I plan on someday owning the whole set : )

You know I got love for ya Bluegoat but I gotta say that 'Love Actually' has some horrendous nudity scenes in it. I had to say it in case someone picked it up on recommendation as a decent movie only to find that there are scenes where two people arrange a date while they are shooting a porn movie. Not to mention that it is the WORST movie ever made, and that was without the nudity scenes.

You know Im not having a go at ya, Blue, I just had to say make that point known.

You're right.  I totally forgot about the porn sub-plot - probably because last time I saw it was on tv and they cut it out.  Well, I stand by it being a good film, including that bit, but yeah, maybe not for everyone.

Oh, and The Nativity was rather good!  Though I thought Joseph was too young.  It's suitable for kids as well, though younger ones would likely find it boring.

P&L, I've avoided The Exorcism of Emily Rose because I thought it might be silly - but maybe I will give it a try.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is not silly at all.  I spent all my time watching "The Exorcist" arguing with it.  With The Exorcism of Emily Rose, I was able to watch it, and it helped me have a much deeper appreciation of what possessed people, as well as their families and priests, go through.  Emily Rose's letter to her priest, during one of her "lucid" (it is the only word I can think of to use) periods, was especially touching.

I think the other thing that makes The Exorcism of Emily Rose better is that much of the court room dialogue is taken directly from the court transcripts.  I think, also, the fact the director and actors weren't going for sensationalism or horror makes it a much better movie.  I wouldn't recommend it for small children, and there are some "horror" bits (it is a possession, after all.  that in and of itself is horrific).

I love the Nativity Story and The Passion of the Christ.  Also the love comes softly series as well. Faith like potatoes, Flywheel, Standing Firm, Fireproof, End of the Spear, The Hiding Place, Expelled ( Creation/ Intelligent Design Documentary), and just in case you like to watch some really great Bible studies here is a link ( and to prove none of these are boring I thought I would add that my kids love all of  them too!, including the Bible studies )
