What are you getting your toddler for Christmas/Holiday Gift Giving? - Page 2

A sibling.  We live in a 450 square foot yurt, and his toys fill enough of it already.  And even though neither of our families goes terribly overboard, he is the only grandchild on both sides, so he's sure to get more than enough without us.  He'll be 22 months, so doesn't know what Christmas is yet.  I do have a few little cars from the thrift store stashed away to give him when the new baby shows up, though.

Maybe a couple of those schleich animal figures?  DD is only 18 months, but I got her a little cat today and she's over the moon about it.  We probably are going to try not to get her too much since she's the first grandbaby on either side... so she's going to end up with an avalanche (though we're gunning for a membership to the play museum, and one aunt offered a cash gift to the college fund, which I want to take her up on).

And I'm going to build her a little play tent, I think, and maybe sew another outfit for her "baby."

Oh, and I bought her a tape player at a rummage sale last month, and she loves it.  So we're going to get her a couple of books and record us reading them, singing to her, and maybe get the grandparents to each do a story as well.  So she can have her "bedtime tape."  I am super excited about this idea because my BF works at a sound studio, so we can do sound effects and background music and everything.  This is our big gift!

DD's big gift is going to be her big girl bed.  She is nearly 2.5yo and still in her crib (quite happily) so it is time that we think about transitioning her.  We are going to get the reversible one from Ikea that is low when she is still small and then can be a short loft bed when she is bigger to give her more play space.  Our bedrooms are pretty small since we are in an older home.  I'm not sure if we will end up getting this for her, or if our inlaws will.  They usually like to get us large, useful items so I am going to suggest this to them... but if not, we will get it for her.

Other than that so far I have just picked up a few things for her that I stumbled on.  Costco had a big kitchen accessories set that had pots and pans, baking accessories and a tea set altogether.  They also had a double sided travel aquadoodle.  I have also gotten her a couple of DVDs that I found for cheap - VeggieTales and Barney I think.

I will get her some clothes, but will probably shop and the consignment store for them.  She doesn't care - as long as she gets to open them.  And new jammies - we always do new jammies on Christmas Eve.

We very rarely buy new toys during the year.  If I find a great deal at a garage sale or the thrift shop I will pick it up, but they usually end up communal daycare toys. Christmas is the only time DD really gets new things of her very own so she usually gets spoiled.

My DS will be 22 months so we are just getting him a few things, he will be getting a guitar (DH plays guitar and DS LOVES music), a few books, maybe a sled or another small gift and then Santa will bring him a art easel and his stocking will have the art supplies. My parents got him a black and decker tool bench set and some wooden puzzles. I am not sure what ILs are getting him. And his birthday is at the beginning of February so he will be getting a play kitchen for his birthday.

my kids love these, too and they'll play with them forever.

I'm wondering what everyone is getting for their LOs. Anyone do a minimalist gift giving? It's not really a religious thing for us, more tradition, and I know she'll be getting stuff from the rest of the family. Everyone loves shopping for children.

we don't get much for our kid. a couple of stocking stuffers and 2 or 3 "big" gifts. it's all mostly used toys. this year in the stocking we're doing play-doh, crayons and coloring books, and maybe a book or toy. the big presents are a wooden dish set, a wooden toy train (used) and we're making her dolls, doll clothes and doll accessories.

I'm building a kitchen for ds. He'll also get food & dishes & accessories for the kitchen. We are debating buying him a Chuggington train set (it's pretty much the only tv he gets to watch & he loves it). We have also decided that for each Christmas/birthday we will get him a real tool so that when he is old enough to move out of our home he'll have a good set of tools. Plus he'll get to use them in helping us with projects!

I really like this idea. I want to get her fun stuff, but also practical, without going way overboard.

Right now I'm getting DD a copy of On the Night You Were Born http://www.amazon.com/Day-You-Were-Born/dp/015205944X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1291095179&sr=8-3

This really awesome Eric Carle lion puppet (he's even cuter in person) http://www.amazon.com/Kids-Preferred-World-Carle-Puppet/dp/B000UHAF3U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1291095210&sr=8-1

and a little people barn with the animals that makes the (incredibly annoying) barn yard noises that I found on ebay.

We've decided to put off the kitchen until her birthday in late February as $ is tight. I was thinking about getting her this set of Eric Carle Animal lacing cards, apparently I'm on an Eric Carle kick, :D http://www.amazon.com/Eric-Carle-Animal-Lacing-Cards/dp/0811860019/ref=wl_itt_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=ILVXDNU0PTUG6&colid=2QQT0PQ17P535

Grace is getting a Sit & Spin as her big gift. :)  Like many other kids here, she's going to be inundated by family....and she'll be 18 months at Yule....so she won't know the difference.  I did learn from my nieces and my older one to wrap lots of little things at this age - the big treat is just opening the wrapping paper!  I have a bunch of little things (books, some bells, a mini sock monkey, etc.) that I'll wrap up in boxes so she'll have more to open.  For her 2nd birthday (in June), I got a wooden playhouse and some wooden dolls with magnetic clothes to stick on them.....like wooden paper dolls.  I found it at Costco and got it so early because they only have the cool toys for sale now....not next spring when I need a birthday present!

For my 7yo, I got the Lego Harry Potter game for the Wii, some books, and some other Lego toys and other small things.

My kiddo is 20 months too :)

Santa is getting my kiddo plan toy's wooden trike (from me and daddy) and a wooden kitchen (from grandma)

me and daddy are also getting kiddo a dinosaur book, a dinosaur toy, some wooden cars, and maybe a stuffed animal.  Haven't decided yet.  Grandma, grandpa and great grandpa are getting her wooden foods and cookware to go with the kitchen.  I think great grandma is getting her wooden building blocks but I'm not sure.  I think my brother is getting her a jack in the box from target... not sure about my aunt and uncle though.

I'm already thinking to her birthday in March though haha... she is getting an easel :D  She LOVES to color and I'm hoping an easel will help keep her staying in one place...

I think we are going to do some toy donation before Christmas, if I can manage it, because we have way too many toys for one 2 year old.

DD is likely to get a large number of gifts from our extended family, so DH and I plan to be low-key. I already know what some of the family-purchased Xmas gifts for DD are this year and they are not space-savers, let's put it that way.

I'll probably renew our children's museum membership. I'm also thinking about a toddler gym class (since the winter months mean we get outdoors much less) or a music together class (DD loves music). Maybe some pots/pans and more wooden/felted food for her play kitchen.

Santa is adding to DS's wooden blocks. We have a great basic set of unit blocks. I'd like to add some special pieces to it this year. A castle gate and maybe some towers. DS is obsessed with castles right now so this will be fun.

Beyond that, he'll get some books, jammies, and a stocking of little goodies.

We're getting the Fill and Flow Spout, Dispicable Me, gluten free playdough and Adventure Dolphin Playset by Sprig Toys. But this is for his Birthday and Christmas. His birthday is 12/26, and we're having his party that day. But he's got plenty of other people in his life buying him gifts too. We really don't buy much during the year and ask for everything around holidays. :)
