pink eye and breastmilk

My 4.5 yr old has what I think is pink eye - yellowish discharge from eye, watery eye, itchy and red.  He's also got an awful cold with a fever so perhaps it's something else?

Anyway, I've been treating it with breastmilk 3-4 times/day.  After day one the discharge decreased significantly.  We are now on day 3 of treating his eyes and they are still itchy and watery with some discharge.  Should I continue with bm or take him to the doc for something stronger?

Also, he's definitely home with me tomorrow b/c of his fever but once that is better should he still be home if his eyes have discharge?

I did that with my 2yo when we were up at the cabin for a week and ended up buying the eye drops for pinkeye when we got home because although it did help, when I slowed down or stopped the problem came back.

I found that doing it more often worked better.

However my DH and DS both still laugh about when I squirted DS in the eye.
