Trisomy 18 home birth story?

Thread Starter

I remember a very long time ago stumbling across a birth story of a trisomy 18 baby.  I didn't think much of it at the time, aside from that it was a sweet and heartbreaking story, but now I am facing the same thing, and I want to read it again if I can -- but I've done a google search and I can't find it!

I think it was a baby boy, and the parents decided that there was no point giving birth in the hospital, so they had a home birth and spent the few hours of his life together at home.  Does this ring any bells?  Does anyone have any idea where it is?  Or other stories of home births with such babies?

I don't think I've read that story before, but I had to comment and to tell you that my thoughts and prayers are with you, and I wish you a calm and peaceful birth as you say goodbye.

I wasn't able to find the birth story you're looking for, but there were some other resources about neonatal hospice care and planned homebirths for ill or stillborn babes.

I'm so sorry to hear of the diagnosis. Wishing you and your family a gentle, peaceful birth.

First I'm so sorry that you are having to look for this story. I wish you a very peaceful birth.

I don't think there was a birth story written on it but there are some photos of a birth center birth of a trisomy 18 babe on Patti Ramos' blog. It may be the same family who posted a birth story else where.

You might find it or other family's stories shared in Family Profiles and Legacy Pages at http://www.trisomy18.org and the related online community at http://www.trisomy18support.org

Hi there,

I am expecting a baby with T18 in about 2 weeks.

I had given up on HB, and planned to deliver in a tertiary medical center in the nearest big city, but now we are revisiting homebirth as an option, esp. b/c the kind of care we want for our baby can be given at home or hospital and home is much more sacred!

It is such a hard decision/journey.

I would love to talk more with you about this, esp as we are again enmeshed in making the decision, even though we thought we had already made it (for hospital birth).

This is our 12th baby, 7th living (hopefully), and all but the first were homeborn.

I think I've read that too, but I don't have it bookmarked.  I do have this T-18 story bookmarked, though - they didn't have a home birth, but did take them baby home for his short time with them:

My thoughts are with you!
