REI has childrens Bogs on sale again.  They still aren't cheap, but if you are looking for this kind of boot, it's better to get it on sale than to pay full price.

Growing up on a farm in northen Ontario I can tell you Rubberboots are not warm....no matter how many layers of socks one wears.....Many times I would have to go out on a cold snowy night to help feed the cattle....and yeah....the times I though I would just throw on my rubbers because it would be faster....I learned the lesson that there are winter boots for a reason. I never scrimp on winter boots....for myself and the family. We all have ones that are good to -30/40C.....I hate cold feet in winter and some of the boots they sell as winter boots make me laugh.

I wonder at what temperature are they taking pre-school kids out for 45 min? Â I would think if it was too cold for wool socks and rainboots, they shouldn't be out that long at school. Â For me, winter boots are a MUST but it gets REEEEEAAAALLLLLYYYY cold here. Â However, sometimes I find rain boots more conveinient and the kids usually wear those if we are just running out to the store or whatever.
Â
I should also mention that I NEVER buy my boots new. Â ALL winter boots/jackets I manage to find second hand. Â $40 for a pair of winter boots is absurd!
I too am in Canada....growing up we went outside at school....no matter the weather...well not really we didn't go out in rain....but cold and snow....on go the snowpants, boots, mitts scarves etc (we had a 1hr lunch and 2 20min recess breaks....Otherwise the kids may never go outside for upwards of 4 months lol.Â
