how much would you charge?

I have been offered to watch a little 2 years old girl.. She's my neighbor and i have watched her a couple times but never really charged anything ...

Now her mom ask me if i can have her for more days and more hours and to charge her.

Is going to be at least 3 days a week.. from 5:30/6:00 am to 6/7 pm. She's going to provide food and snacks...

The thing is... this little one does not feed herself , still on diapers... does not really want to hold her BOTTLE. I told her mom that she shouldn't  do that already..(  she shouldn't even have a bottle by now...just my opinion) but  its her daughter and if she's here I'll do what she wants me to do regardless....

The mom told me that she wants me to give her a bottle when she brings her and put her back to sleep until around 9 am..My issue with this is that i have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. We get up at 7 so i don't know how to work that out... (i mean getting the girl back to sleep with my kids up) .

I really need the money that's why i consider doing this , otherwise i wouldn't take her cause they're kinda weird and go overboard with her kid...

What do you think? Day cares around here are charging like $100 a week i think...

thank you s much for your time!!

You would be keeping her over 36 hours a week so if you charged $100 it would be less than $3 an hour. For in home care I would charge a minimum of $5 an hour. Since this child still has many infant type needs I would charge more for that, just as a daycare would. Have you already talked to the mom about the morning sleep issue? That really needs to be addressed now too.

You have at least 2 issues here

1. what to charge

2. vastly different parenting issues

1. what to charge. You have 3 days at 12 hrs a day?  No day care center is going to take a toddler for 12 hrs shifts. The max they will take around here is 10 hrs.  I had this problem when I was working 3x12's so I also needed in home care.  I paid a full time rate to my sitter. (IDK what your mom is doing but I can only guess she is on a condensed work week?)

2. The parenting issues, you need to provide the care she wants you to provide, if that means extended bottle feeding for whatever reason, delayed potty training, etc you need to be ok with that.  If she wants her child to go back to sleep until 9am that could be because they stay up late at night (you said she doesnt pick up until 7 so the kid may not get to bed until 10pm or so).

If you decide to take the daycare kiddo make sure you put everything in writing and set up a contract.

thank you ladies!!! It is really hard to make a decision because i really need the money and i actually know and really like this girl.. she's really smart and gets along great with my kids... But i don't want to have any issues with her mom..

She is a nurse and works 12 hrs shifts... so money is not really an issue for her plus her husband is home all day and she wants her kid to be with me cause she says her daughter is too much for her husband....(too active)

I don't agree with any of her parenting choices but i don't get involved.. is her daughter and just as i don't like people judging me i don't do it to others...

I'm going to ask her what are the chances of her husband dropping the girl off wan she gets up  and see what she says...

we'll see...

thank you again!!!!
