What do you know about a succenturiate placenta?

I had my 20w u/s a couple weeks ago and than I had dr appointment today and although the baby seems to be just fine in there i have a suspected succenturiate placenta...Dr said there are no consequences to myself or baby but i've read a little and seems like the potential is there for a pretty dangerous situation...

Should I be concerned?

I've learnd that it's an extra lobe attached to the placenta (part of the actual placenta) that didn't attach properly and is connected by a blood vessel...I guess the big concern is it becoming detached at delivery and either being left in or massive bleeding....that does not sound good!

Im not sure how I should reply. I believe I had a placenta much like you describe. It was an extra lobe, something like that.  My doctor did not know about it until after my baby was born. 

It caused part of my placenta to be retained and I hemmorhaged. I passed to the tissue and had to go into surgery the next day.

If your doctor knows that you have this issue, you can be more prepared than I was!

Did you have an u/s?  So do you think this would warrent a c/s or would they just be prepared to go in after it if did seperate?

Since your doctors are aware of this issue, I would think that the likelihood of complications would be quite low.  The biggest indication of problems would be bleeding.  The worst case scenario would be if the cord that connects the 2 placental lobes was draped across your cervix.  If this is not the case, however, then your pregnancy should proceed rather uneventfully.  I would not be surprised if your OB would want to proceed with a c-section - the risk of abrupted or retained placenta is there and I would think that is enough of a reason.   I am a nurse and worked in OB and I had some severe placenta complications with my first pregnancy.  The range of "no big deal" to problematic can be pretty vast.  My suggestion is to ask questions until you feel at ease or have some concrete answers.  Always remember that your OB works for YOU and his/her job is to provide as much information as possible.

I'm kinda getting the idea that this is a rare problem with only the couple responses...I'm going to be scheduled for a third trimester u/s to see what's going on; so i guess we'd decide after that what the best route would be...
