Gaming platform for gifted (nearly) seven year old - Page 2

Just wanted to chime in on the enduring appeal of Star Wars. For Christmas, DS's biggest request (aside from a Leatherman multi-purpose tool and/or a Buck's hunting knife) was for the complete DVD set of the original trilogy and the prequels. He was very specific about which versions/formats. He and his friends hold an annual Star Wars marathon viewing session. Did I mention that he's 17 and off to college soon?  The obsession persists for a long time lol.gif !

I can't really help with the original question, since neither of my kids are gamers, except as occasional players, although DD likes Brain Age on her Nintendo DS. I haven't seen her play it in months though. They also liked the Wii (as did I) when we had one for a while a couple of years ago.

I actually don't play any of them, but that was the consensus among my DS (9) and his friends (ages 4-12).

Late to this thread, but thought I'd chime in as a wife of a hardcore gamer and mother of a 3-yr-old that appears to be following in Daddy's footsteps.  We have an Xbox360, PS3, PSP and just got a Kinect.  DD loves Kinectimals on the Kinect, although it is a little difficult for her.  She likes Viva Pinata on the 360, which is an older game but it's bright and fun and full of animals and pretty open to what she wants to do with her garden.  The game I have to really plug, however, for anyone with a PS3 or PSP, is Little Big Planet.  This game is seriously awesome.  It's basically a puzzle game.  You have to solve little puzzles to get through each level, and as you go through them you also collect various objects.  Going through the levels is fun and interesting, but what's really great is the part where you can create your own levels.  You can take all the materials and objects that you collect playing the regular levels and put together your own level that you can then play as well as share online with others if you wish.   DD looooves the create your own level part, although as a 3-year-old her levels are pretty bizarre and random, and involve things like 3 racing camels in a row that just run into a wall, racing gates suspended in the air and arranged backwards, random jetpacks and rows of stars that go nowhere.  Little Big Planet 2 is coming out soon, and DD loves the demo.

Thanks for the Little Big Planet review.  I might look into that.  We use our PS3 as a Blu-Ray player and really only game with our Nintendo systems, but that sounds like a game DS1 and DS2 would like.

We love Little Big Planet too. There is so much variety in the community made levels that it has something for everyone. We got the PS3 motion controller and a couple of games to go with it. It's a lot like using a wii.
