Resolved: When to report ads?

Thread Starter

I have read on the long threads about the new system, that people report offensive ads by PMing a Mod.  I am wondering how non-crunchy or non-natural the ad has to be in order for us to report it....?

Is there any way to describe what is okay vs. what isn't?

I think I have read that formula ads, and disposable diaper ads are not okay.

What about harsh chemical cleaners (like lime away) and processed sugar cereals (like lucky charms)????

I'm sure you can't please everyone, since we all have a different tolerance for these things.  So I am wondering how you officially make the call.

thanks!!!

Most of the ads that are of question come via the ad networks we run in some ad slots. As much as we try to to place filters to weed out things we don't want to run, things do get through. As we become aware of them we get them removed.

Some things are pretty specific regarding our advertising standards - no ads that violate the WHO Code regarding the marketing of breastmilk substitutes (formula, bottles, pacifiers, etc). We also do not accept ads for Nestle, pharmaceuticals, or disposable diapers. However, we don't keep a list of product types or companies beyond these specifics (though I may be failing to recall a thing or two in what I've mentioned redface.gif) simply because the lines are sometimes unclear and products are constantly changing. We prefer to make decisions as things are reported to us on a case by case basis.

If you see something of concern you can email administrator@mothering.com with information about the ad including the URL, the product and a screenshot if possible. We'll take a look and if the product is inappropriate we'll get it filtered out:thumb
