Our to be 4 toddler harasses me for lipstick. This has been going on for months. Sometimes I give in and use a v. light one like a barely noticeable one or don't give in and face the tantrums. One of our family friends actually gave us some all-natural lipsticks he had got for free (don't know from where) for her. He thought it was just like using lip balm because of no chemicals in them. Recently, the focus is more on nail polish. Her grandma will paint her nails and I have let her because I know about the harassment. I remember wearing my mom's lipstick, handbags, high heels. Should I just give in and let her get over this phase but think she might want to go to school dressed up when she starts school next yr. How do u handle this?

We had this happen when a friend of mine bought DD (at 4 years old!) a little makeup thing for kids with different colors of eyeshadow and lipstick, ugh!
I managed to hide it but then forgot about getting rid of it and she found it. For a while she was obsessed with using it and if I said no she would be upset and ask over and over. Finally I said ok, but you are only allowed to use it when we dress up in costumes. So she was actually fine with that and for a while it was serious dress up playing every day, lol. Then she kind of got over the obsession and still dresses up once in a while with it but not like she did at first.
She started school and never even questioned whether she would be allowed to wear it there, I don't think it occurred to her because she understood that there was no other time to wear it other than dress up at home and she was fine with that rule.
It was so weird to see her with make up on! Her older brother would come in and say get that stuff off! She looked so much older it was just weird.
I did get her chapstick to use and she loves that.

Our computer wasn't working so the late reply. We did try the chapstick, she wanted color. Never heard of natural nailpolish. I'll be definetly looking for it as dd does have wheezing issues.
Â
Thanks.Â

Â
Part of my problem is what other mom's might be thinking that I've spoiled her. I think I am most bothered by that, although I'd never encourage her to use either.

There are tinted burt's bees chapsticks. They look really coloured in the tube but there isn't a lot of colour payoff (depending on the colour, obviously). I think they are called lip shimmers.
Â
The nailpolish is called Piggy Paint http://www.piggypaint.com/
Â
Also, OPI has a formaldehyde free line called Nicole which you can get at drugstores.

dd1 is obsessed with the whole dress up/make up thing. Â i have a little vanity in my bedroom so she has always seen me at it. Â i bought her one for her bday, painted it & got a set of make up brushes & used a bunch of empty, but pretty make up containers & such i had been saving for her. Â the one real thing is the tinted burts bees. Â we love it! Â
Â
piggy paint is cool too. Â it seems to peel off pretty quick/easily but if you are ok with that, it's great.
