Crochet pattern for holiday party scarf?

I have a nice red top that I will wear to a holiday party or two. I thought I'd crochet a fun scarf, not anything warm, just something you would wear to a party.

Maybe use green or sparkly yarns. But I am not sure what pattern or yarn type to use. I like the open or "lacy" look, not chunky. I am a beginner at crochet and have made doilies and one scarf and hat.
