Rubella vax prior to pregnancy?

First off - I want to start by saying that these forums were a really great resource when I did my own research whether or not to vax my child.  We decided against vaxing and I feel comfortable enough to defend my choice to doctors and nosy relatives.

So I'm hoping people have some advice about vaccinating PRIOR to pregnancy. My TTC friend wasn't vaxed.  The doctor tested her antibodies and wants her vaxed against rubella - saying it causes birth defects.

If she does get pregnant, are there any side effects/warnings/dangers/etc. for being vaccinated?  There's a lot of info on flu shots for adults and kids shots, but I'm at a loss here...Anyone?

Rubella and Pertussis were two vaccines I wanted to make sure I got before becomming pregnant. Even though I do vaccinate my children we delay them and don't do all of them so I feel much more comfortable getting the vaccine for myself as an adult than for a very young baby.
