So many people are having problems with their pelvic symphysis, I thought it would be helpful to have this thread and put our heads together for pain relief techniques.
Â
Mine are:
- Keep a rice pack in your freezer. For a few minutes in the evening (or as long as it stays cold), lay the cold rice pack across your pelvic bone area. I made my own rice pack with a fabric remnant and non-instant white rice. I store it in the freezer so it's always cold, but it can also be heated in the microwave for about a minute at a time if I need heat therapy.
- Do the cat stretch to help get the baby's weight off of your pelvis for a few minutes.
- ...or, put yourself in the position that they recommend for cord prolapse (see step #3). They say it's not comfortable but I get into that position on a nightly basis to help get the baby's weight off my hips, pelvic symphysis, and lower back.Â
- Keep your knees together when you roll over or get out of bed.Â
- Do butterfly stretches: sit on the floor, put the soles of your feet together so your knees are extended on either side, hold your ankles, and very gently flutter your legs. If it hurts, don't do it, but if it feels good, keep it up. My chiropractor recommended this to me and I was skeptical at first, because of my midwife's advice to keep my knees together, but it works very well for me. I have been laying on my back with my legs in the butterfly position and it actually feels amazing, despite the fact that I haven't been able to lay on my back in months. I accidentally fell asleep like that last night.Â
- Keep your pelvis aligned no matter what position you're in.

That's all I got...any other ideas? I hate that the only cure for this is to give birth, but having some relief is helpful.
