Resolved: Smilies and Hyperlinks

Thread Starter

I read the other thread, but it was closed for length before I was able to post a question or two. And I apologize if it's been asked and answered; I tried reading very carefully but a few things made me confused (BB Code stuff, for example). Anyway ...

1. Will we, in the current format (rich text editor?) be able to type :lol or such smilie code and have it show up in our post? Or are we going to have to always open the smilie window and click on the one we want?

2. On the old board, we could use [ url = blah-blah-blah ] Title of hyperlink desired [ / url ] and a hyperlink would show up. I tried that today and it didn't work. I tried the button above to insert a hyperlink and all it did was hyperlink the actual URL rather than give me an option of retitling it. Will we be able to eventually use the [ url = ] [ / url ] and if not, how do we use the hyperlink button above to change the hyperlinked URL to something like "Title of Book on Amazon that I am wanting to link to that we are currently reading".

By the way, I am on a Mac with Snow Leopard (up to date) using Safari (also up to date). Thank you for any help. I am slowly learning the ropes on the new system, but being able to type smilie code and type URLs like on the old board were so much more convenient to me and I'm hoping we'll have that option on the new format too.

Hello!

Yes, the goal is for the smilies to work as normal in addition to the ability of the Rich Text Editor to paste smilies. smile.gif

On hyperlinks I find that it works well to type the word(s) I want to be used for the hyperlink and then I highlight the word(s) and click the hyperlink button.

So if I wanted to hyperlink a horrifying badger video I would type

Badger

Then hightlight Badger, click hyperlink and then place the website in the field.

Thank you Jessica for responding so quickly. I'll be patient on the smilies and hopefully people will know what I mean when I type something like :D out of habit. :wink I will try the hyperlink thing with the book I was trying to link to earlier: If Dogs Were Dinosaurs

I think that worked. Thanks!
