Hi ladies,
Â
Just had to share a sweet and funny experience here with you all, especially since I know a lot of people encounter pressure against homebirth.
Â
Both my babies were born at the hospital; only recently did my state change its law so that assisted homebirths are legal. If we have another child, I hope to have a homebirth - but that's pretty unlikely right now (another child).
Â
ANYWAY
Â
I was at my dd1's religious ed class, she's in first grade. The teacher was talking about Jesus' birth, and asked the kids where they were born. She hesitated, looked *right* at me, and said, "Well, some of you were born in a hospital, and some of you may have been born at home?" She went on to say that happens, sometimes a baby is born at home too, and they may know someone who was born at home (I had shaken my head 'no' to the homebirth thing). Then she went on with the class.
Â
I thought it was sweet, and funny too - I don't know how she decided I must be a homebirth mom, she seems a very mainstream mom in a mainstream town to me, but it was very sweet that she was inclusive enough to realize there are other ways to do it, and to acknowledge that with the class (and me).Â
