After Pertussis - How Long Until Normal? - Other Experiences

My sons were diagnosed with pertussis this summer.  My older son was sick for a short period of time while my youngest was coughing for weeks and then it turned into pneumonia.  By the beginning of September it was gone except for a random scary cough now and then.  I know from reading up about pertussis that it can take some time before your body recovers.  It is now the end of November and my little one has a bad cold which has brought back all the pertussis like coughing at night.  Not horrible, but enough to wake us up.  Also when he goes into the cold or drinks something cold.  How long will colds be worse then normal like this?  Just this winter?  Longer?

many people say about a year.   ours wasn't that long and was well managed with homeopathy....but I think 6 months to a year is pretty average.
