For the lace pattern, it's yo, slip 1 purlwise, knit 1, yo, pass slipped stitch. Above, your description is missing the second yarn over. (Also, remember the k1 at the beginning should NOT be repeated).

So, what you should do here is wrap the yarn around the needle, creating an extra stitch (yarn over). Pass next stitch from your right to left needle (presuming you're working that way). Knit 1. Do another yarn over. Locate passed stitch and pass it back over the k1, yo. Then start the next repeat with a yarn over.

You probably ended up with 104 stitches versus 124 because you forgot the second yarn over per repeat. (I'm going to guess the pattern repeats 20 times; 20 forgotten stitches = 104).
