stuck - k1, yo, s1 1, k1, yo, psso

I get the k1, I  sort of get the yo.  No the long and short of it I don't get this whole instruction, can anyone guide me?

Okay, Here's what I think it is.

Knit one,Yarn over (wrap the yarn around the needle from back to front), slide one stitch from left needle to right needle without knitting, knit one,  yarn over, Pass the slipped stitch over the YO and the knit stitch.

for the Slip 1 just put your right needle into the stitch as if you were going to knit it, but then just pull it over onto the right needle.

The stitch you pass over will add an interesting texture to the finished product. It will go over the other stitches and stick out a bit.

I am following what you are saying - but when I am passing over I may be confusing the stiches...but I am only supposed to be passing over two?

The way I read it, yes.  Pass the stitch over both the yarn over and the knit stitch.

Do you have a link to the pattern? That might clear things up for me :)

hi, I can't seem to post the link but it is the Amanda Hat by Gina House on Ravelry.com   The next directions I am stuck on is on round 2 drop yo.  So I am supposed to drop yo from the previous round?  ahhh....I can do it I can do it I can do it...

Yes.  when you get to the YO from the previous round just slide it off your needles.  It should be slanted as opposed to vertical (which your other stitches should be)

I'm back....I counted my stitches after doing the knit2 yo, s1, kn1 psso and guess what?  I only have 104 stiches and I am supposed to have 123 stitches!  eeek.  It looks fine to me so I am not sure if the pattern is perhaps wrong?  or what have I done?  and is it going to look odd when it is all said and done?  I am not sure if I did have 123 stitches how I would get back down to 83 stitches again.  Because I did the next round and I am at 84 stitches (so I messed up somewhere) ...help....if you understand what I am talking about try and talk me through this....does this mean I have to unravel?

Looking at the pattern . . . I see a  mistake in your info above

For the lace pattern, it's yo, slip 1 purlwise, knit 1, yo, pass slipped stitch. Above, your description is missing the second yarn over. (Also, remember the k1 at the beginning should NOT be repeated).

So, what you should do here is wrap the yarn around the needle, creating an extra stitch (yarn over). Pass next stitch from your right to left needle (presuming you're working that way). Knit 1. Do another yarn over. Locate passed stitch and pass it back over the k1, yo. Then start the next repeat with a yarn over.

You probably ended up with 104 stitches versus 124 because you forgot the second yarn over per repeat. (I'm going to guess the pattern repeats 20 times; 20 forgotten stitches = 104).

BTW, I noticed that you asked below if anyone thought this was a difficult pattern for a newbie . . . looking at it, I think it might be a little difficult if this is your first hat and you might want to experiment with a couple that "build up" to it.

The Point Lobos Hat: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/point-lobos-hat would give a lot of experience working with yarn overs and is fairly simple. Just know the pdf pattern is wrong in the decrease and the errata is in the comments of her blog entry.

maybe I will try that one next time, but I am going to stick with this one til the bitter end....I am going to go to my local knitting store for some help, thanks for that suggestion.
