Plastic toy from 1977

Should I be concerned with letting DD play with a set of teething rings from 1977?  It is fisher price toy as seen here http://www.thisoldtoy.com/l_fp_set/toy-pages/400-499/430-animalring.html

Should I be concerned with lead? And all the bad things that can be in plastics?  This was a toy of mine from childhood, I had it out as decoration in DD's room and she saw it and grabbed it.  She had a lot of fun with it yesterday.  Do you think it is something I should worry about?

I probably wouldn't let her play with it.  Of course, I'm a little worked up on the whole lead thing because I just found out that the Star Wars glass from the 70s that I use as my water glass is full of lead and cadmium.  yikes.gif

Maybe someone else knows of a website where you can check out the history on the actual toy?

Get an OTC lead test kit if you're concerned. I don't really think it's a major concern, but I'm probably less worried than most people on this one.

My primary concern would be if the plastic appeared to be degrading, otherwise, I would probably not be concerned.

Hmm, a OTC lead test. Duh.  I should have thought of that!  I might be able to get one from my work- a division of the agency I work at does lead testing and I bet I could bring the toy in and have them check it with their gadgets.

It is in pretty good condition, the ring part is a little scuffed up which made me concerned, but the rattle rings look really good.  I washed it all up and then got really concerned about lead.  It is more of a dyed plastic than a painted one- so no chipping, etc.  I did an online search and didn't come up with any info on the contents of the plastic.  I'll definitely try to use my work connections to check it out for peace of mind...she really does seem to like it.
