Can I wear my 16 week old facing forward in a moby?

She has excellent head control and loves to watch the world.  I know they say that she is probably too young, but has anyone else done this with success?  I tried it for a short time today and she loved it, but I was worried because I know I read that you shouldn't...

I can't remember when I first wore DS in the Moby forward facing, but it was around that time. He was fine with it, but I found it uncomfortable and got the Pikkolo carrier for ergonomically correct FF carries. I think the age they give is 5 months...but my feeling is that if it feels right and baby seems okay then go for it. My baby also had excellent head control very early so I figured it was fine if he was a bit short of the recommended age.

I wore dd forward facing when at the grocery store beginning at five weeks. Like her brothers, she was born with amazing head control. By 5 weeks, she was ready to stay awake for a whole trip like that (I wouldn't want her to fall asleep like that), and was wrenching herself every which way to see, so I turned her around. Now at four months, I cannot put her ff in the Moby because no matter how snugly tied, it just doesn't give her adequate support unless she's facing me, and at about 18 lbs, I'm just about finished using the Moby.

If her body were smaller, and could be held very snugly, I would still do it when she wanted to be awake. I think though, that there are lots of carriers that are much better suited for forward facing at dd's size, and I am hoping to find one in the next few weeks because I can really only hold her on my hip all day now, and I'm getting sore! She's annoyed by the Moby except for naps.

What types of carriers are you looking into?

I very much want a Boba, but my dd wouldn't be able to see out of the top. I'm a bit at a loss, actually. I've been looking here and there for a little while, but haven't found the one perfect thing. I would do a woven wrap, but I need to do some serious core-strengthening so that a non-stretchy wrap won't hurt me.

I was also thinking of converting my Moby by adding a long woven piece to where it holds dd, but leaving the parts that wrap around me soft and stretchy. I'm also concerned that the Boba or other similar carrier wouldn't give dd the support she needs while sleeping. She'd be completely fine while awake.

Probably I'll first try the Moby-conversion, then buy a Boba that dp can use with our three yr old if it doesn't work for dd, and then I'm a bit at a loss for dd. I checked out an Ergo on a woman in the grocery store, and it wouldn't work for me. :(

There are no stores that have carriers here, so I have to take chances with what I can find out on the internet. I may end up doing a hip carry for a few months until dd can comfortably fit in the Boba. There are so many great carriers, but I have a very short torso with babies with very long ones, who gain weight very quickly, so I've had a lot of difficulty finding carriers.

That's not much help though, is it...

ETA: I'm going to buy the Boba. We'll get a lot of use out of it no matter if I am carrier-less for a while or not. There are a couple of babies who look somewhat swallowed up by it on here, but still comfy.

A woven wrap should not hurt you, if fact if wrapped properly it will support your upper body and strenghten the pelvic floor.

Changing a wrap like your talking about could jeapordize the integrity of the wrap and create safety & support issues for you and your baby. You might consider a hip carry using your Moby.
