I have the kids with me most of the time, though now DS is in preschool I try to schedule non emergency stuff while he's there. I think it's fine so long as you are well prepared, make sure the child has something to play with and so on.
Â
Dental check ups we book the whole family in at once so the kids get to see DH and I being checked over. Any treatments though we'll try to make sure we have childcare.

Yes I have brought my DS to my Dr appt's. I would not bring him to dentist appointments however as I would be stuck in the chair and not able to properly supervise.  Â
Â
I prefer not to bring him to my Dr. visits especially because I'm sure it's boring for him but sometimes I have no choice.

Pretty much every appointment except for my Pap. DD even went with me to get a mammogram a few weeks ago ~"Mommy, why is that lady squashing your boobies?"! I've brought all three kids to the hair salon (cut and color, so an hour at least), dentist, oil changes, pretty much everything. They're fine as long as I bring something for them to entertain themselves with ~ coloring stuff, books, DS for the older ones, etc.

I'm writing this 2 hours before I take DS with me to my hand doctor appointment
I prefer to not have him with me, but only because it frees me up. I try to find someone to watch him if it's going to be a long appt, an involved or invasive appt, or if elevators are involved, (he had stitches at 2 yrs old in the hospital and ever since has equated elevators with that experience. So not a good scene).
Â
He is very good with waiting and patience so he's usually not a problem. And sometimes you just need to bring your DC with you, they are a part of you life and most offices realize that.

I used to but they're 8, 9 & 12 now & in school most of the year so I no longer have to. Before that yeah they all came with me to every appointment including Paps, vaginal checks when pg, etc.
Â
The last Pap they were at they were 5, 6 & 9. I figure they have to get them done themselves at some point they may as well see it isn't a big deal. My dr(male) had no problem with them being in there.
Â
now if I had boys I probably wouldn't have taken them to a pap beyond age 3-4 or so.
Â
When they were younger they'd go in the stroller during these parts so they couldn't be running around. The rooms are quite small though so not alot of running around room anyhow.
