Airport Security

I know with the holidays coming and travel increasing, the new scanners are on lots of minds here; I just thought I would post my experience.  We flew out of Hartford, CT on 11/18 and out of O'Hare on 11/22.  Out of Hartford, no one in my group went through the x-rays -  they were not in use.  Out of O'Hare, everyone in my group (5 adults) EXCEPT me was selected to go through the x-ray machines. I was carrying DD (7months).  It looked like it was being done at random, but I was so thankful that I was not asked to choose between radiation (mild I know, but still) and a stranger touching my child.  I still had not decided which was worse when I got to the airport.

Obviously I don't know what other people will experience, I just thought some mommas might feel better knowing that it might not be required.

We are about to travel to and through the US, with five total flights in the month of December. There are quite a few discussions in the Safety forum on this right now, and also some good info about how the scanners really are not as safe as they are saying. I still don't know what I'll do either. It would weird me out to have some uniformed, tough guy-looking man with rubber gloves rubbing his hands all over my son. Honestly though, DS is very social and outgoing and loves being passed around, so I highly doubt it will phase him at all. And it lasts all of what, half a minute?

we flew the 11th > 14th...newark & ft lauderdale.

newark-didn't even make me take dd2 out of kinderpack on my back.  dd1 walked through old school detector, i followed w/ baby on my back & then agreed to a light pat down that was very relaxed.

ft lauderdale-2 tsa agents were confused about their rules & in the end, i took dd2 out of carrier, walked through with her in arms.  no pat down.  it was an old school detector.

ft lauderdale ran a check on all our liquids & food but let it all through.  i had forgotten to empty things from our afternoon before traveling home but they allowed it all after a quick sample test.
