I'd say it was around 12 mos that both my girls started to cut back to one nap during the day. My eldest stuck with a morning nap, but my youngest prefers the afternoon. She'll sleep anywhere from an hour and a half to three hours most days.
Â
Not having a nap in the morning means that DD2 gets more worn out by naptime and tends to sleep longer :)
my ds has the same sschedule as your dd
Â
It takes 30 minutes or more to get him to sleep for his 2 naps and about an hour or more to sleep at night.
Sometimes I feel like I spend most of my day trying to get him to sleep.
Â
I'd really like to drop a nap, but worry that he still needs more sleep.

This was my son. Â Two weeks ago we went to one nap, he is 15 mos. Â I struggled to get him to nap for too long, taking 30 mins. to get him to sleep each time. Â Now he falls asleep in 10 min or less. Â Sometimes he crashes hard. Â He now naps for 1 1/2- 2 hours, always at least an hour, before it was about 40 mins each. Â Wish I had tried a few weeks earlier, but felt that he needed two naps. Â He is sleeping better at night too! Â His nap time starts about 11:30 or 12 at the latest, but he has been having a hard time making it that long, wakes at 6 am. Â Today he woke at 5 am, so he fell asleep at 11:00. Â I recommend trying it!

My 11.5 month old, who used to go down really easy for her morning nap, has also been fighting it hard the last 2-3 weeks. But she isn't going down for more than 30-60 minutes most afternoons either! She's sleeping pretty well at night (way better than when she was learning how to walk) but isn't getting more than 12 hours sleep anight and seems so tired. But we've been trying for 2 naps and maybe we should just try for 1 midday. I'll give it a shot and let you know how that goes.

We had some success, today at least. DD woke up early today, like 5:45 am, so she was ready at 11:30. she slept until 1:15, which is a huge improvement over other recent days where she sleeps 30-60 minutes total in small chunks. I nurse her in a quiet dark room around 9, so if she wants to take a morning nap, she can, but if she won't go down, I'll let her up and plan on giving her a noonish (depending on wake up time) nap. Hopefully that will work better for us.
Â
PS - I didn't mean to hijack this thread, we were just having the same problem as the OP...
DD is 11 months but already toying with giving up her morning nap. She's been sleeping for shorter periods (usually just a sleep cycle) and some days just talks in her crib for 20 minutes or so before we get her up. Plus, her morning nap tends to push her afternoon nap pretty late which can mess with her 7pm bedtime.
Â
I'd like to try and get her on a 1pm-ish nap each day and see how she does. She sleeps from 7-7 pretty consistently, so I feel like overall she will still get enough sleep even with one nap.

My 14 month old does this too. She usually wakes around 6:00-7:00 am which is good since I need to get my high schooler off to the bus and start school with my 8 year old soon after. But around 11:00am she is ready for a nap usually and can sleep about 1.5-2 hours then. Around 3:30 when I go to pick up my oldest at school sometimes she will nap then and sometimes she will just stay awake and doesn't go to sleep til bedtime around 7:00-8:00pm. I just go by her cues and let her sleep when she seems to want or need it.
