I would do the thanksgiving meal with smiles,take the gifted money,and then ignore them when they rant.

Do what you want with the money,and live your lives as you want-not what FIL wants.He can talk all the smack he wants,but you don't have to listen. If you can make it being a sahm that is great. I would not want to work and never see my kids.Yeah it would be nice to have more money,but I will make some money when the kids are older.

It went VERY well, thanks! Fil completely backed down and it never came up in conversation. I think because of how both dh and I reacted to his comments, he lost all of his steam, so to say. He did take it upon himself to 'fix' our roll away dishwasher later in the evening and hook it up so we don't have to drag it over to the sink anymore ( without being asked). Dh and I have also found a really good new loan that isn't going to screw us on interest and lowers our house payment significantly, and best of all completely takes the ILs out of the picture financially.

Boundaries are an amazing thing. My ILs love to give monetary gifts, and love to give advice about our life choices, but it basically never been a problem because DH is Captain Boundaries and had a good dynamic established before I even met him. I hope your DH will also join the Boundaries Super Friends, because it really does lead to a closer relationship between adult kids and their parents.
