What does baby -2 position mean?

So today I had some cramping and ending up having a NST and a cervical check. The midwife said that my cervix is still firm and long and that baby is at -2. Afterwards I realised I have no idea what that means. Does anyone know?

That's how engaged the baby is in your pelvis and it's called the baby's station. I thought I could easily find a website that shows this, but apparently not! 

 

-2 station means the baby is heading down; the baby is engaged at 0 station and crowning at +3 station.

It refers to how low the baby is -- I believe 0 is even with your pubic bone.  Negative numbers mean the baby is higher than that, positive numbers mean that the baby is further out than that.

 

I'm sure someone can give a better/more thorough explanation, but I think that's the basic idea.
