scheduling an appt with the ped, finally:what should I ask for? - Page 2

glad I'm not crazy or something! My mom tried to say the same thing, that my expectations are too high, but really I think they are pretty reasonable. I generally try to accommodate him too, if we are going to a restaurant, I will bring his little backpack with matchbox cars, books etc. If the food takes forever we will go walk around for a bit. But then my expectation is that he not climb all over the furniture, stand up in the chairs and so on. At school I figure if they have been having success with this method for 100 years, and there are currently 15 other 2-3 yr olds who are succeeding at this, then the issue is not with the school.

I think we may be on to something witht he sleep thing. I noticed today when he was watching a video on youtube that he was breathing in such a way that he actually sounded like he was snoring, even though he was wide awake. I don't know if it was his posture because he was sitting still and not moving around like usual, or what, but my mom breathes the same way and she has severe sleep apnea. she doesn't always use her mask and she can be a terror without sleep.

And he is always tired. I put him to bed at 8ish tonight and he was clearly overtired already but he stayed in there carrying on so bad taht he woke his sister up numerous times. I finally got fed up and told him if he wasn't going to lay quietly and listen to his music, or go to sleep that he could get up and do housework with me. After sorting 3 loads of laundry, he declared that he was tired and going to bed. lol. but he will still wake up in the night several times, AND be up at 7 AM, even though that's not enough sleep for him.

Well, we went to the pediatrician today. She talked to me for a while and definitely didn't blowmy concerns off. Ds lead testing was a 4, which is higher tahn she'd like but not at all alarmingly so. She will retest in 6 months to make sure it is going down. His adenoids are huge and swollen so she referred us to an ENT and amazingly we got an appt tomorrow. Can't believe that. Hopefully straightening out his breathing will help him get better sleep which = better behavior.

She suspects some sensory stuff as well so she sent out referrals throught he chidlren's hospital to a developmental ped and an OT.

I called the dev. ped toe scheudle the appt and they asked what it was for, and I told them behavioral issues, and the girl said that they will deal with sensory integration issues, but they don't do behavior stuff. I thought that's what made a dev ped different from a regular ped????

Kinda overwhelming, but I'm glad we are the path to getting some answers!

Can you try to move bedtime earlier?  When my ds (23mo now) was having trouble with going to sleep, it was b/c I was waiting too long to put him down.  I moved his bedtime up an hour, and it was like MAGIC - he fell asleep quickly and early.  When he gets overtired it takes a few days to get him back on track, but once they get into that over tired, hyper active, can't fall asleep state its really hard to get them to go to bed.  And yeah, unlike teenagers who never wake up in the morning, toddlers are up earlier if they go to bed late.  Oh well.
