We use FB, BG, and SB pockets and some microfiber, some hemp and some bamboo for inserts. Most of them are only a couple months old. We wash with Charlie's soap, ad to my kowledge, do not have hard water. Despite this, a few weeks ago I started noticing that tell-tale ammonia stink in our dipes. We also started getting a ton more leaks. Since I have been hanging around these boards lately, and stripping seemed to be the topic du jour for some time, I thought I had this down . . . .
Â
I didn't. Sunday I started the process by washing everything in Dawn. Of course, despite a pp making this exact mistake, I added too much Dawn ( I think I did anyways). I followed the dawn cycle with 2 very very hot cycles, each with two cold rinses. Everything still smelled dawn-y and the dipes felt kind of sticky icky, so I sent them through two more hot cycles, for a total of 5 washes. Then another cold rinse for good measure.

They came out looking like new, although admittedly, they did still smell a bit soapy. This morning I put DD back in one of the stripped dipes. She leaked completely through it at both legs openings and the back, in a half hour. Weird, I thought. Diaper number two of the day goes on . . . this one lasts a bit longer, but again, leaks through. This has been going on all day now, only one dipe didn't leak. I tried sprinkling a bit of water on both a micro insert and a BG pocket and the water completely beads off, almost none soaks in. AAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

What have I done? Have I ruined my diapers? They were absorbing better before they were stripped! Could residual Dawn be causing this? Help! I can't afford to replace these!
