Would you call your HCP for contrax in the middle of the night at 19weeks? (updated)

I'm 19w3d with twins. I've been contracting all day. At first, they were irregular and I thought bc I was on my feet all day. I took a bath, super hydrated and tried to go to bed (3am here). They're painful, regular and keeping me awake. Every 10mins or so, so ~6/hour. Not changing w/ position change, rest, fluid.

I have no reason to believe I have any pt labor risks other than twins. I've had two term pgs. I know 6/hour is standard call-in drill later on... but, what about this far pre-viable? Am I correct that there are no interventions this early anyway?

I guess I'm just trying to decide whether to call now or wait out the night. I happen to already have an appt tomorrow, tho it is late-afternoon. The last thing I want to do right now is wake DH so I can go to the hospital, not to mention the likelihood of him being late to work tomorrow if I sign myself up for a hospital check at 4am, yk?

OTOH, if there's something a HCP could 'do' that I couldn't, I want to take this seriously....

Man, I hate being westcoast time zone when all of you are sleeping soundly! :lol

4am now. Still every 10ish mins. Office opens at 9. I think I'm okay to wait it out for 5 more hours, tho I'm tentative about that....

Hopefully, in the a.m. I can post a sheepish "it was nothing and now I'm exhausted" update for you all. :shy

Good thing I'm 9 hours ahead of you!

Call. Do not wait!! I'm fairly sure that if they are regular and 6 per hour, that indicates a real risk for being in labor. My doc told me to call immediately if I had this happen. Your doc will not be upset if you call - they expect calls like yours and would rather you called and it was nothing than not called and wound up being in real labor.

Please don't wait. You are far too early along to make this decision and take this risk, particularly when it's just a call to the doc! Keep us up to date.

I would call my HCP/mw for ANYTHING that concerned me.  That is what they are there for!!  They may have additional questions to ask you, to help determine the severity.  They may give you advice of what to do to stay home and make them stop.  They may tell you to come in.

If you are concerned enough to post here, a phone call is def. in order.

Good luck mama!!

Oh, I was so hoping to scroll to the end and read everything had calmed down.  I hope your getting help right now.  You may have a UTI that is causing preterm contractions.  That can be treated.  I'm sure there are other possibilities as well that I'm not thinking of that can also be treated.  I'm sending some prayers your way that all will be well!

BTW, it is not unusual during pregnancy to have UTI without symptoms.  I happened to run + on Nitrites at my first prenatal, which apparently almost always indicates UTI.  Absolutely no symptoms at the time and my midwife indicated this was a common experience.  The urine culture came up + and symptoms started appearing the following day.

Hi mamas. Thanks so much for the concern.

I didn't call last night. I did call first thing this a.m. and they had me come in early to get checked out. Ended up spending the day there. MFM pulled some strings so I could be treated in L&D instead of the ER, which was really nice.

I was contracting. My cervical length is okay, tho (3.2) and didn't change from the morning US to the evening one. So, nothing that appears to be changing my cervix.

I didn't mention in my post last night, bc I thought it unrelated, but I have had a blistering headache for 4 days. So, they gave me an IV and gave me a bunch of fluids and an IV concoction of some meds for the headache, and, as soon as my headache was gone, so were the contractions. IDK if it was the fluids (I wasn't dehydrated, but you never can have too many fluids) or the pain, but I'm glad either way.

Also, no UTI, but that was a really good suggestion that I hadn't thought about- thx mylilmonkeys

So glad everything is ok. In the future please call! That is what they are there for. I'm relieved they were able to stop them. Hopefully nothing like this will happen again. hug2.gif

I'm so glad to hear all is well!  Headaches while pregnant are no picnic.  I'm dealing with another migraine today.  Take care!
