Hey, we're getting a Playmobil barn for the kids for christmas too.  It's the "Large Farm Set".  I just found it on Kijiji (like craigslist) for half price.  A woman bought it for her kid for her b-day, she played with it once and then never again so they decided to sell it.  Some of the pieces are still n their original plastic bags.  I'm so excited about my score I had to share it here, lol!

My 4yo dd (she'll be 5 in January) is getting the following:

one of those little build-a-bear bears that are so adorable
a homemade apron for cooking w/ me
a homemade craft apron
homemade jumper (red velour)
a play-doh set

and she and her 3 sisters are getting a trunk that dh is building filled with dress-up stuff.

In fact, that list for my 4yo is the same list that all my girls are getting this year.  There are also a few odds and ends that we picked up for stockings, and a bunch of outdoor play things that they will love, but that's the big stuff. (the odds and ends include jigsaw puzzles, art supplies, and stuff like that)

My 4yo ds is asking for a Bounce Back Racer, a dump truck 'that I can sit on', and a submarine.

Dh got him a different RC car when returning from a business trip a couple weeks ago, so I don't think he needs another one.

I got him a playmobil submarine and helicopter, a solar system planet model, a zuzu hamster thing, a dinosaur art/craft book, national geographic kids magazine, some extra train track pieces, couple of books, scrabble jr to share with his 6yo sister. Oh, and a cute set of scrubs with 'Dr our last name' embroidered on it, and some personalized dinosaur stickers.

I'm not sure about the ride on dump truck idea. Seems excessive, and he already has a ride on winnie the pooh, corn popper car, a beautiful wooden train we got him 2 yrs ago, plus outgrew his balance bike and got a new two wheeler for his bday in the summer. . .

My four-year-old (girl) is getting:

Modeling beeswax

A dress for her doll

Apron

Glitter crayons

Glitter glue

Face painting crayons

We're also planning on getting a nice dollhouse and haven't decided whether to give it to my 4-year-old daughter (we have a "big" gift for each of our other kids, so this would sort of balance things to do it this way, even though it's really for all 3 kids) or whether to give it to the 3 kids together.  If we give it to them as a joint gift, her big gift will be a bike.  If we give it "to" her, we'll probably get her a bike next summer anyway (bikes + Michigan + winter = sort of lame, if you ask me).

What *IS* it about the unicorn pillow pet? My DD (turned 4 in Sept.) has her heart set on it!

I know a couple things she;s getting from other people, and no one has picked up the pillow pet yet, so I think we'll be getting her that.

The ILs go so (insanely) overboard that so far we have only ever gotten her a couple of things for Christmas in her life. I like the idea of keeping it more simple, so this year, and in the future, I plan to go with

Something you want

Something you need

Something to play with

Something to read

Want: Pillow pet

Need: School clothes

Play: Hopefully a riding horse (that horse head on a stick thing if I can find one) OR train tracks for their diecast Thomas trains

Read: A book or two

In stockings, I plan on getting each kid (and DH!) socks and underwear, and the girls (we also have a baby turning 2 in Jan.) a tube of the Little People animals to go with their barn which they play with everyday.

DS, 4, will get Leapster games, TAG book reader and books, an R2 D2 shirt from H & M, and the most prized gift which he asked Santa for is the Buzz Lightyear wing pack.

My dd will be 4 in February.  She has a long list, but won't get all of it.  I already got her a lot of play doh accessories that I found cheap on Craigslist (she LOVES making and playing with play doh).  I also got a bunch of white playsilks that we've been dyeing together.  I'll be selling some of them to help cover the costs.

Here's the other list:

Purple unicorn pillow

Long sleeved shirts

CD player

Velveteen Rabbit audio book

Winter coat

Snow pants

Mittens

Doll stroller

Hair accessories

Jewelry

Medium sized tape measure

Home made apron and matching hat

Scooter (the kind you push with your foot)

Sit and spin (if I can find one that doesn't make noise)

Roller skates

Ice skates

Giant, soft frisbee

Bike helmet

She has the longest list in our family!  Definitely trying not to spoil her with too much stuff.  We will be going through her room and the toy room and choosing some things to get rid of to make room for new things.  My sister does this with her kids at Christmas, birthdays, and school shopping -- I think it's a great idea.

I hope things aren't getting out of control with gifts here! So far I know dd will be getting (from us and other family):

  • doll highchair and feeding set
  • doll clothes
  • doll sweater that I knit, and maybe a hat if I have time
  • doll quilt that I'm making
  • pajamas that I'm making
  • scarf that I'm knitting (hopefully)
  • new shelves in her room that dh will make
  • some books and games
  • there's some other big thing MIL is getting her that I can't remember. But I remember that when dh told me I said "I thought she was getting the highchair?!" and he said she is getting that AND this other thing I can't remember.

I'd also like to get her (or convince someone else to get for her!):

  • kids' headlamp
  • yoga mat and maybe a dvd
  • a super cozy velour blanet like the one she loves at preschool that I would make with velour on one side, a pretty floral print on the other, and fluffy batting in between. She'd cuddle with it and also use the flower side as a "field" when playing with the dolls and stuffed animals.
