Question for those who DO vax on schedule!

My DS's ped wants him to get the flu vax.  I'm hesitant b/c we turned down H1N1 last year (they ran out anyway), and this year they are all in one shot right?  I'm just wondering if other parents who do vax on schedule are giving the flu vax this year - I can't decide.  (I never get the flu vax if that makes a difference)

DS will be 2yo in Jan, and is fully vaxed so far and has never had a reaction to a vaccine.

I was planning on it, just because we are in transition from one area to another and the kids are going to ps now. I am concerned about the fact that they will be exposed to it at school.  I also worry about being in a new climate and I know that anytime we even visit somewhere, like when driving to PA, everyone in my family gets sick, so that concerns me too.  BUT, everywhere I checked they didn't have anymore children's doses, so as of yet, my kids have not gotten it.

The H1N1 component of the vaccine is simply an antigen, just like the H3N2 and the influenza B components are. It is not 2 or 3 vaccines mixed together, but one vaccine with 3 antigens.

That does make me feel better about it actually, and I really don't want him to get the flu this year since I'm studying for the February Bar exam (ugh).  Thanks, we probably won't get it right away, but I'll just get it at his 2yo check up in a few months.

Um...I am being a little lazy about it.  I have no philosophical objections to getting the flu vax.  In years past, we just haven't been exposed to much risk at all.  Now, we have a different dynamic, with several family members who could bring it home to us.  If I can pull myself together, we will get it.  For a number of reasons, I am not afraid of the flu vax.  Just hasn't been necessary in the past.

I'm not getting it, mainly because DD1 HATES needles (which isn't a reason not to get her the vaccines usually, but this isn't on the UK schedule anyway) and she had the H1N1 last summer.  As did we all.  TBH i wouldn't bother simply because it doesn't seem critical to me, and she has no underlying health issues which would increase her risk of complications from flu and it means i don't have to hold her still for the needle (plus i had the H1N1 when pregnant and it made my arm VERY sore for a few days).

Do any of you know if the flu vaccination is a shedding one? What I'm wondering is if I can get it for certain ones in my family and not for others. Last time I called they said they had it for all my kids except my 4yr old so I have been putting it off until I can get them all in at once. I'm thinking that might not be am option.

Injectable flu vaccine does not shed since it isn't live. The FluMist is a live attenuated virus though.

I'm strongly considering the flu vax for the whole family this year as we have a newborn.  Otherwise I wouldn't get it.  We have gotten them in the past when the kids were younger.
