knitting help - please

Thread Starter

hi there I posted below about the hat project I am working on, and how I am supposed to have 123 stiches on this one round but I am some how ending up with 104.  I am not sure if I have made a huge mistake because the knitting looks fine to me.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give.

You might have either skipped some increases in the pattern, or you might be accidentally decreasing by knitting two stitches at a time together.

so I should tear them out and start again?

Did you miss some of the yo's?  Or are you possibly accidentally passing both the slipped stitch and the yo over, instead of just the slipped stitch?  You will pass the slipped stitch over the k1 and the yo, but both the k1 and the yo should remain on the needle.

Yes, you will have to undo that round, but if you had the right amount of stitches after round 2 of the lace pattern, you don't have to rip the whole thing.  Undoing just one round can be hard for a beginner though.  Do you have a yarn shop nearby where you could find someone to help you fix the mistake?  It is much easier to help with knitting in person, where I can demonstrate and watch.

I responded with my guess in the other thread, but I probably would tear them out. If you've missed some of the yarn overs, you're not going to get the same pattern for those four rows.
