cleaning moldy straps

My Radian was in the garage for 3 months. I brought a Marathon on a plane trip with us because I prefer to travel with it. When we got back, I didn't switch back to the Radian.  I would like to switch seats now. However, when I went to get the Radian out of the garage, I found that the straps are moldy. According to the manual, I can use "warm water and mild soap" but I can't submerge the straps.  I have been able to "rub" some of the visible mold off. Do you think if I do this and then clean it with mild soap that is enough?  Or will there still be invisible mold? I am trying to decide whether to clean them or just buy new straps.

Mold may have weakened the straps.  I suggest replacing.

What is the DOM on your seat? The first generation did not have replaceable straps but all of the newer ones do (I think in 09 was the change, but I'm not sure?)

The straps on our infant seat molded and I just bought new straps. Mold is just too yucky to mess with.

If it's an older model with non-removable straps, I'd try diluted vinegar in water, and see if that helps.

If it's a newer model with removable straps, I'd try the watered-down vinegar, and if that didn't work I would just get new straps.

Vinegar is NOT ok, do not do this, even if diluted.  It will kill the mold, but it will ruin the straps too.   A little very mild soap (think baby wash), and a damp washcloth is all you can do.   I would just replace them though if you can.
