Reported: Subscriptions don't take me to the latest unread message

Thread Starter

First of all, I'm not happy that the subscription emails no longer send out the actual posts... but I would be able to live with that, except that when I click the link for the subscribed thread it doesn't take me to the first unread post, it seems to take me to a random post near the end, and then I have to scroll back through the pages to find the first unread one.

For example, my Bitter Sushi Ladies subscription says I had 15 unread posts. When I click it, it takes me to #408 (of 410 total right now) instead of to #395.

Hi Laggie. wave.gif

I've not been able to duplicate this issue on my computer with my subscriptions. Mine take me right to the newest post since I last read the thread. I'm not sure why it would behave differently for you and it's pretty difficult to troubleshoot such a thing. But I'll do the best I can. Please give me your operating system and version, the browser you are using and its version, and I can report it so that if we see a pattern we'll have a better chance of catching the issue. thumb.gif

This is happening to me too, anytime I open a new thread with 'new' posts. It will take me to the previously new posts I'd already read, not the new posts from this visit.

I'm using FF latest version, Windows 7.

This is happening to me, too.  I thought I was the only one.  (FTR, I am on IE8 and windows 7)

I can click on an email notification that I get and just go anywhere.  It is very confusing.

For example.  Say there is a thread posted.  I can respond in post #10, I then get individual notifications for posts #11 -20.  If I then click on the notification for post #11 I may actually get there (or maybe not), I will read all the way down, and post again in #21.  However, I can then delete those posts from my email.  Then get a notification for post #22, but when I click on it, I am directed somewhere up thread and have to scroll down (or up depending on the mind of the site) to find where my post #21 is so I can start at #22.

And since I rarely know what post number I am on, I am finding it very difficult to navigate.  Almost not worth my time.

Same issue.  Windows 7.  IE 8.  It's really annoying!

Thanks for the feedback. We'll take a look and see if we can resolve this so the function works as it should for you.

I'm having this issue as well, and not just from subscriptions, but when navigating from the forums page, it's like it can't remember the last post I read in a thread.  It's pretty frustrating.

I use Firefox on a Mac

I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.12

My subscriptions today:

this thread: 7 new posts (click took me to post 7)

Bitter Sushi Ladies: 45 new posts (click took me to post 456 - the last post)

November 30 Somethings TTC #1/Bajingo Juice Rules: 112 new posts (click took me to the last post)

I'm clicking from gmail if that makes any difference.

Yeah, like I just clicked on the email notification for this thread (It had one new post only) for the last post (#8) and my click took me to post #6.

I seem to always go to the very last post - earlier it was going to a random post but now it's always the very last one.

Just reiterating that this has been reported and we will get it resolved asap. smile.gif

Is there any update on this?  I'm actually wondering if the functionality is just not part of the new s/w or if maybe I'm doing something wrong?

What I'm looking for is what we had in vbulletin.  If I subscribe to a thread, when I click on the link that gets emailed to me, it takes me to the most recent unread (by me) message in that thread.  Is that maybe must not part of the new system?

I feel like very rarely the URL in the email is different (has postXXXXX at the end of it) and then it works.  But mostly it's just the url for the thread.  Maybe it's different if I have subscribed via responding to a thread vs. just 'watching' it?  Although that doesn't seem to be the case.

It's driving me insane redface.gif

Thanks!

Any new update?  this happens to me as well.  I have to remember how many new posts there are and scroll up from the last post to get to where I left off reading.  And the email notifications are showing up at all hours of the day.  Not just in the morning like they used to.  I'm on Firefox and yahoo email.

So sorry! I'll check and see what the delay is. I thought it had been resolved but either it had not or it was but reverted back to the same issue. Either way, I'll check and post an update asap. shy.gif

I'm having the same issue.  It often takes me to the top of the page.  Never to the actual new post.

Also, if I post to a thread and then go back to the forum and see that there are new posts after mine, there is a spot to click to take me to my last post.  When I clicked that, it took me two posts up from mine instead of right to it.  A minor issue but thought you might want to know.

It seems to have changed for me now!  the second link in the message takes me to the correct spot.  The first link takes me to the top of the message.  This may be by design, IDK.  For the longest time they were both the same though.  Now, the second link has post_xxxx at the end of it.  Thank you!
