Yeast is hearty like that...

Would you recommend boiling water for the wash machine?

I wouldn't recommend A&D ointment.  It is a petroleum product as well as it contains fragrance and is a 4 on the EWG skindeep database.  I would lean toward something comparable but natural.  Weleda wound care, Badger Balm Baby balm and Country Comfort Baby Cream are all excellent.

I second that.

Maybe just plain zinc oxide?

I appreciate this thread.  DS has had a little red at the end of is penis, noticed last night... contributing to not stripping his diapers enough.

Thank you for all your thoughts on this Mamas!

Burt's Bees makes a good diaper cream that is zinc oxide based.  It has worked for us when nothing else has.

As long as it won't hurt your diapers (I know the AIO covers aren't okay at those temps) then YES! I've heard of women boiling their panties to kill yeast...or adding a teeny bit of bleach and running several times on hot.

I ended up using bleach to rid our diapers of yeast.  We had reccurent yeasties.   I did about 1/4 cup in the HOT wash cycle with an extra tea kettle of boiling water the dried them 2 cycles on HOT.   FINALLY killed the yeast.

At the point we were I didnt CARE what it did to the diapers most of mine were fitteds.   They got alittle lighter but.. we were yeast free :D

I just saw this thread, and I have a question. What does "stripping" his diapers mean? I cloth diaper and I just wash it with Dr. Bronner's castille soap and a little dash of vinegar. Am I supposed to be doing something else? Thanks!

If you do a search in the diapering forum you'll come up with 50 threads that explain it much much better than I can! :)

I just wanted to add that it probably has nothing to do with the fact that he's intact.  One of my best friends' sons had an awful awful awful yeast/rash situation on his circumcised penis.  He had to go to specialist after specialist and they had to layer cream on top of cream.  And like I said...totally circumcised.  I'm sorry that you're having to deal with all this...it sounds really stressful, but do NOT blame it on the fact that he's not circumcised!

My circ'd son got the WORST yeast rash about a year ago. Like, would wake up screaming because he was in so much pain...It was all over, including his penis. So yeah, it's not just intact boys. You know what they tend to call it when a circ'd guy gets a yeast rash? Jock Itch.

When my son is red, I use coconut oil on him....and it is usually gone before the next diaper change, if not by the next day.  Coconut oil kills yeast, and soothes the bum :)
