Is it worth it to buy a maternity/body pillow?

Just like with my first, I'm experiencing hip pain at night now that I'm getting pretty big.  I've doubled up on the pillows I use for knees, but it's not helping very much.  I sometimes wake up on my back, too, which is not good.  I've been thinking about putting a pillow behind my back to prevent that.  But if I'm going to just keep having to add pillows, I wonder if it's better to just get a full-size maternity pillow that wraps around my body?  Has anyone ever used one of these?  If so, was it as helpful as you hoped it would be?

ESSENTIAL ITEM!  My old body pillow was so mashed down, dh went out and bought me a new one before I got a chance to mention it this time around.  Even he could tell what a difference it makes in my sleep.

YES! I got mine a few months ago and have loved every night with it. The best part for me is that if I sleep facing the edge of the bed with the pillow behind me I don't have enough room to roll over onto my back. Waking up on my back was KILLING me and this has stopped that problem.

If you need it, you need it.  I didn't start even needing a small pillow between my legs until 37 weeks.  I guess I'm kind of a freak though. orngtongue.gif

Which one(s) do you all recommend?

I have a Snoogle. We bought it at Babies R Us with a 20% off coupon.

I'm only 8 weeks, but have been having a lot of low back aches. I was wondering if sleeping with a pillow between my knees/legs would help. I've never used the pregnancy pillows before, and they seem to cost a bit. Would the regular body pillows be adequate?

If you can sew, here's a tutorial to make your own. That's my plan, I'm hoping to make one in the very near future! http://everythingyourmamamade.com/2010/09/25/day-25-1-pregnancy-body-pillow/

Any recommendations for a pillow for taller ladies? I've really been wanting one of these (hip hurts from sleeping on my side), so I started reading reviews.  I came across a number of reviews where women who were 5'6" or so said they were too tall for the pillow! I'm 5'8" so I've held off on ordering one based on those comments.  Maybe I'll just attempt to make my own instead, so I can make it as long as I need. Still, I may not get around to it.  Any taller ladies found a body pillow that works well?

Yes, it is absolutely worth it to buy a maternity pillow! With my first pregnancy, I had backache from really early on but once I bought a maternity pillow, they went away and I was soo much more comfortable at night. This pregnancy I didn't start using one until a few weeks ago, but it's still worth it. I bought this one off of amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-All-Nighter-Total-Pillow/dp/B000JROE6K/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1291552995&sr=8-5

It works reallly well and I like having something behind me to support my back and it also helps prevent me from rolling completely over onto my back while I sleep. If I had to buy a pillow again, though, I would probably get this one: http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Back-Belly-Contoured-Pillow/dp/B0002E7DIQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291552995&sr=8-1 because it is long on both sides and the biggest issue with my pillow is that when I want to roll over to a different side during the night, I have to turn over the whole pillow so the long end still supports my legs. As for the lenght, I'm 5'6"and it fits me perfectly. If I were taller than that, it would probably be a little short, especially if I pull the top part that goes under my head up so it's at an angle and not flat. Oh, another problem with the pillow is that the pillowcase is ridiculously hard to put on an off. It has an opening on the end and would be a lot more logical if it had a zipper going all the way around it. I just make my husband do it because it's so friggin frustrating.

I am 5'8" and the Snoogle works just fine for me. I do have longer legs than torso, though, so if you have a really long torso, YMMV.

Are maternity pillows the same as those long body pillows?  If so, 1000x yes.  I had hip pain too and the long body pillow was AWESOME.  Mine was like $10 at Target.

I just use a regular body pillow. The straight style body pillow not the curved maternity pillow. I am 5'7". It works great and I cannot imagine sleeping without it.

I and 7 months pregnant and I just love being able to find a position where I don't feel pregnant at all. It's a nice break.
