7 month old chest cold and choking at night

This is so scary. My other babies never had anything like this.

DD2 has a wet cough for about a week. During the day she only has a few coughs and they are not a big deal at all. She is perfectly happy, no runny nose or other symptoms.

At night when she is lieing down it is a terrifying sound.

She actually chokes and spasmodically coughs for a few seconds before the mucous comes up. It might happen a few times and her body gets it up, but it's very scary.

I took her to get listened to and her lungs are clear.

Im trying to tell myself that this sounds so bad because she cant voluntarily cough, so her body has to get the mucous out so she can breath, but have no experience with this.

Any one else have anything like this with a baby?

 Yes, thank you for asking.

We went again today. The baby is still happy with no other symtoms and same cough at night.

Ped said, yes the horrible choking sound is because she doesnt know how to cough yet, so it happens by itself to get the mucous out and clear her airway. She said this cough could stick around a while because she is little and cant get the mucous up fast as an older child.

She said to sit with her in the bathroom and steam her for 15 min before she goes to sleep and plenty of nursing to keep the mucous thin.
