Searching for Midwife or Doula in Koh Samui, Thailand

Hello!

I am new to this Forum, so, I am hoping I've posted in the correct section. 

My daughter is pregnant with her first child (due in mid-February 2011) and living in Koh Samui with her husband. They are searching for a midwife or doula. Also, searching for childbirth education classes. 

So far the closest hospital that has a natural childbirth center is in Bangkok, which is quite a distance away.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Hi and welcome!

I would go on over to the finding your tribe forum here on MDC, you might find some other moms in Thailand that can point you in the right direction.

Another good resource would be La Leche League International. Many of the women involved are naturally minded mamas as well, and LLL leaders themselves can be great resources on the local community. I don't see a group in Thailand, but this leader is a good contact for all the Asia areas.

I just wanted to put in my two cents, because my second daughter was born in Thailand (although nowhere near Koh Samui, we were in the Isaan). From what I understood, there isn't a midwife model of care in Thailand, and there is one doula in Bangkok. I got the birth I wanted because I found an OB who was very interested in natural childbirth and supportive of it - he let me go 16 days past my due date, with no pressure to induce.

Thailand can be a fabulous place to give birth but, as always no matter where you are, choosing the right provider is important!

Thanks for your response... Choosing the right provider is exactly our aim right now. I'm hoping for some help on this board with that. We've done a lot of research, visited the hospital in Bangkok (and, my daughter has visited both hospitals here).
