How can I help an old friend whose husband suddenly left her, a SAHM to four? She's in shock, she's broke, and she needs support. I live about 2000 miles away, but we are mutually connected to many high school friends via Facebook. What should I do for her? I was thinking about a way to collect donations...if many people were able to give even $5 or $10, maybe that could help her through the holidays. Gift cards? Two of the kiddos are under kindergarten age, so if she's able to find a job, she'll have to think about childcare expenses...my heart is breaking for her. Please give me your ideas about what she might need and how I can be useful even being so far away. Please keep her and her little ones in your thoughts. Thanks!

I agree about talking to the child support agency, although it can take upwards of 3 months to get help, and some states now won't help you unless you are getting state services. She needs a lawyer, and I know that it may be difficult with no income. Does she still have access to their bank account? I'm sorry she's in such a difficult place. That sounds terrible.
