Toxoplasmosis - Should I be concerned?

I spent the night at a friends last night, and she has a cat. I am pretty sure the cat always stays indoors.

Well, when I got up in the middle of the night to go pee, I stepped in something wet on the carpet.

I took off my socks and noticed it was pee, so I rinsed my feet off and washed my hands. Is it possible to contract Toxo through cat urine?

Does anyone know how common it is to even get Toxo? I have been looking online but can't seem to find stats. All I read was that usually you will have no symptoms, which is just greeeaaaat, lol.

Stepping in cat ANYTHING in the night is icky! But I certainly wouldn't worry about toxoplasmosis. It is solely in feces, not urine. Even then, it is only in feces for a very limited time after the cat has ingested something carrying the microorganism. And then YOU have to INGEST the feces, not just touch it or breathe air exposed to it.

So to actually catch toxo, you need a cat who recently ate a toxo infected critter, then pooped where you could be exposed, then you need to touch and INGEST the feces. Chances of all that happening are very slim. Not to worry!

(For the record, I changed the litterbox for 3 cats throughout my pregnancy, and never had a problem other than getting back up from kneeling on the floor once I was huge!)

The PP is exactly right-the risk that cats pose to pregnant women has been greatly, greatly exaggerated, especially from inside cats. Many people who get toxo get it from handling raw meat, although that risk is also quite low.
