Just waiting now. My singletons were both late, 10 and 16 days, so I always knew I wouldnt birth early, even with twins. Now just hanging in there. Have had quite alot of warm up contractions, including 1hr at 230 a few mornings ago. Baby one is head down and not engaged (normal for me) and moves between ROA/OP and LOA. baby 2 is breech and is also sometimes transverse when baby one pushes her asside to lie on my left. I am huge, but not overly uncomfortable. Weve done all the things I had on my to do list, henna belly, family mother blessing, belly cast, all the kids xmas shopping done as is gifts for my partner. Now just playing the waiting game. Eager to meet the babies but not 'over it all' if you know what i mean. Spending time this arvo reading others UC birth stories, including medicinemansgirl's beautiful twin UC story :)

I went overdue with my twins. They were due Christmas and were born on Jan 10th. Had them at home (with a midwife though- they were my first). Hang in there- they will come out when fully ready!

I can't imagine how anxious you are to get your babes out.  I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and I'm already telling them to come out soon!!

Thakn you so much fro sharing that greenmama66! I am asking around and finding a very few scattered women who make it beyond 38w with their twins, but maily it is because of their obs! I am so greatful each time I hear of another woman who has gone beyond 40w, makes me feel a little stronger each time I hear that!

For some reason I've known from the start that I'd make it to at least 37 weeks with these guys.  I would not be surprised at all if I went to 40 weeks, but I sure hope not... XD

I made it to about 39 weeks with my twins.  Would have surely gone longer since I wasn't dilated or effaced, but my Baby A had other ideas.  She broke her water with her feet.  At least she chose their birthday instead of the OB.  Since my babies turned breech in the 3rd trimester, I *had* to have a c/s.  Midwives aren't allowed to attend twins or breech.  I wasn't prepared to UBAC!

You are welcome. I was trying everything to get them to come out. In the end I did submit to my waters being broken (of course looking back I would NEVER EVER do that again) but they were born 4.5 hours later and healthy ( girls both weighing almost 7 and a half and one weighing 7 and a half pounds).

Yeah at 40 weeks I measured 69 LOL. I was huge and it just gets so darn uncomfortable walking around like that.

I meant that most obs dont 'allow' women to go beyond 38w with twins. 38w is said to be term with twins now, whihc was clearly not the case years ago before obs began interfering in births.

Actually, the RE that discovered that I was pregnant with twins said that term is 40 weeks . . . or maybe his point was that term for twins is comparable to term for singletons.  38-42!  Wahoo!!

That is great to hear labortrials because the info out there on the net is all about it being 38w as term for twins whihc is very disapointing to read :(

i wish there i could read some good solid backed up info about the 38w vs the 40w thinking, I'm sick and tired of getting a different story from each medical person and midwife i talk to. if anyone had a good study to link to, please let me know.

even both midwifes i have worked with say 38 and my current one who has a LOT of twins experience (in her 9the set this year i think) says 37-38 is best.

now of course I'm not going to induce using anything invasive based on dates, that's just silly. but i could see doing more gentle things based on NST or how i feel. and knowing some facts about twin fetal growth rather than all these conflicting stories would sure made those choices feel better to make.

That's awesome that you're still pregnant.  When I got to about 30 weeks or 31 weeks, I was just DONE, which so not like me.  I just couldn't believe it as every week went by.  I was thankful of course but so uncomfortable.

Well, my last week was NOT great.  I saw my doc's midwife for the first time since he was out of the office.  She was HORRIBLE.  And she talked us into scheduling the c/s since both babies were still breech.  Thank God Baby A chose their birth date.

I'm gonna have to lurk about more so I can read your story!  :)

Why in the WORLD would 37-38 be best?  I'd want them to explain that one to me.  Perhaps your midwives are speaking from their anecdotal experience and the assumption that 1/2 of twins are born by 36 weeks.  But if you're going UC, then you really don't have to listen to them anyway.

Our bodies couldn't possibly carry babies (twins or not) for the proper length of time.

"37-38 weeks is best" I would ask any CP who said that to me to prove it.

yeah i never said that what i have heard made any sense to me either. i am not UC so thread crashing a bit, you ladies just seemed very knowledgeable so i figured i would soak a bit of it up since i am a first time mom and learning at a fast rate.

what i had heard from those that took the time to explain even a little was that twins actually developed faster than singletons so they really were more developed at some point than there singleton counterparts. i just have not seen anything that really shows if that is true or totally ridiculous. 

i just keep wondering what the facts are when so many folks say that the placentas can get "worn out"? like does this apply to all twins and if so why? or does this maybe just apply to twins that share a placenta? (this i could possibly see making slightly more sense.)

anyway just asking questions, my midwife i willing to be as lax and hands off as i want her to be and that is one of the many reasons i choose her. one of the her reasons was her very large experience with twins, so it would be silly for me to not at least take into account the info she was sharing, so i can make more informed choices for myself.

My partner told me this morning about his dad's girlfriend's daughter having twins (boy/girl fraternal), and they induced her at 38 weeks.  So now I see what you mean...and I was sad for them.

I'm now 36 weeks, 3 days (mono/di twin girls).  Just starting to lose a bunch of mucus plug (no bloody show) and having some light BH contractions as well as cramping.  I expect I'll get these for a bit before I actually go into active labor.  I know my body is meant to carry and birth twins, I don't see why'd they come all too early. :)
