Gift for 11 year old boy.

Hello all -

This is going to sound really lame, but I have no idea what to get my 11 year old son for Christmas.  We do something each year following this poem =

something you want

something you need

something to wear

something to read

I am coming up completely blank (I feel like a failure as a mother) for something you want and something you need.  He really does have everything he "wants".  He said he wanted an under armour shirt, but my mom got that for him.  He is not really into video games.  Likes most sports (but has all the equipment he needs).  Loves our local sports teams.  (Does not need any clothes).  It's a good thing to not want anything, I guess, but what can he open on Christmas?  Loves board games.  And reading.  Help!  Please!

Depending on your budget and what you want to encourage: 

Jersey from one of his favourite teams? Even if he has enough clothes, a favourite jersey is special. 

Tickets for a game? 

Equipment for a new hobby - whittling set for carving, GPS for geocaching, skates, skateboard 

Trial lesson at a scuba diving or rockclimbing school or flight school or drama school 

Instrument rental and lessons (drums? saxophone? guitar? The usual suspects for an 11 y.o.!) 

Driveway/Backyard basketball net? 

 

Board games: It's hard to know what to suggest without knowing what he already has. There are lots of gift chess sets - carved wood or marble or cool, funky crafted sets. My teens like playing Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan and Pictionary.

This is helpful for brainstorming - thanks!  I like the idea of the rock climbing or flight school.  I am going to start googling.  HE already plays two instruments.  And has the games you mentioned (except for carcassonne - also googling it).
