Air Travel with 23mo-old

I'm flying this week for the first time in almost 7 years---help!

We are flying AA out of a major aiport that has the new body scanners.  I've heard too much mixed information on this and don't want to do it. 

Also, I'm thinking of putting DS in the sling so that I can pop him out a security.  We'll carry have a messenger diaper bag, a carry-on and his convertible car seat.  I wish there was an alternative to the car seat but in addition to plane safety we need it for where we're going!

We'll have a 1-hour layover and have to change planes but all AA.

DS has a cold and I'm concerned about his ears--thankfully, he's nursing so that will help.

You need to nurse him during take off and landing for it to help with his ears - so you may have to take him out of the carseat.  You can check the carseat, too.  I always held my babies on my lap during flights. 

I would be concerned about the full body scanners.  But I also don't want to be groped by a TSA agent.  I don't have any advice for you about that.
