So I need to amp up my cloth diaper stash for # 2 that's on the way. DS is 22 months and we have never use a disposable!  Anyway, our FAVORITE night time diaper is the goodmama cotton, all in ones. They have the insert that you just snap in? I feel like 20 months ago when I was buying them it was all they had but now they hardly have any?  This really freaks me out as they are the only thing really that we have never had a leak with at night. I so wish they made them in newborn sizes. Anyway, does anyone know what this is about? Will they be back? The website seems to have lots of velour now? Is that .. bamboo? I don't even know. I'm assuming it isn't really unattural and chemical ridden?

Anyway, with G we had a lot of success with prefolds and snappi's in the beginning so maybe that's most of what we'll do. I just love buying cloth diapers, LoL!

Anyone have any other favorites with a newborn? That's the part of my stash that really needs to be buffed up.

Prefolds and covers are my very favorite for the small baby stage. I've found I don't need to worry about absorbency so much for the tiny baby stage, because they get changed so often anyway. I do like having a dozen or so nb/small fitteds on hand for a little variety, but I'm fine with something no frills like Kissaluv 0s or some other cheap, simple to use and easy to find fitteds. Kissaluvs work awesome at containing those explosive bf poop! So for me, my ideal nb/small stash is 3 dozen infant prefolds, 1 dozen Kissaluv 0s, and 8-10 nb and small covers(I like having plenty!). That's about a dozen more diapers than they actually say you need, but I end up using some of the pfs as burp rags so this works out to be a perfect amount for me to wash every 2-3 days and not run out of dipes. I made the mistake with one baby of only having 6 nb covers and was constantly running out, since she was such a frequent and messy pooper. So now, I always make sure I have 8-10.

A little later on once baby is sleeping through the night, wetting heavier day and night, and more mobile sometimes making prefolds a pain, I'm more inclined to splurge for something fancier that's easier for older siblings or babysitters to use(like fitteds, aios, or pockets). Still, I ALWAYS have at least a couple dozen pfs around at every stage, because I know they will always work in a pinch and are easy to care for, not to mention how cheap they are! And.. some of my babies have been really calm and not too heavy wetting, and pfs have worked just fine for them all the way till potty training. For night I used to add a hemp doubler and a bulletproof cover, and it worked well. Other babies I used Very Baby Simply Nights with great success with even my heaviest wetter. Don't know if they even make those anymore??

Probably not the most exciting response, but that's where I'm at after cloth diapering my last 6 babies with another on the way. I guess I'm "over" my crazy, obsessed diaper stalking days and now am totally about a simple, streamlined, and practical diaper stash that I know will work and save money too!

Thank you so much for the response! It's funny, with my first I spent so much time researching pregnancy, birth, and newborn things, I hardly had the time to buy cloth diapers. But now, since I have all my beliefs and did all the researching last time, I really don't know what to do with this pregnancy this time around  We have a good amount of prefolds but I'll pull our newborn bags out from under the bed and see what we have. Unless something comes up this will be a UP/UC so I don't even have midwife appointments or anything, lol. I bought a couple pink goodmama's yesterday just for fun so we have some pink things if it's a girl. I will definitely check out kissaluv's though, thanks for the rec! Did you use snappi's or pins? Do you have any favorite covers? I don't do wool, so I liked just the simple plasticy ones. I also liked them because they were thin. Someone gave me a wool cover but I felt like with that plus the cloth diaper, the baby's butt was higher than it's head, lol.

I totally understand wanting something to obsess over during pregnancy. You have to have something to pass the time, right? Plus, it's so fun to look for that perfect teeny diaper or cover, plan out the stash, get it all in the mail, wash it and organize it all just like you want it.

I was too scared to try pins with my 1st 2 cloth diapered babies but then found a tutorial online and decided to give it a whirl and realized it wasn't hard afterall. I love using a snappi at times too, or even sometimes I go through a phase of just trifolding the pf into the cover like I did when I first started out. My favorite covers are Thirsties, Bummis SuperBrite, Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, and Motherease Airflows. I kind of prefer pul covers instead of wool for the nb/small baby stage too for the reason you mentioned(huge diaper butt) and also because I really don't want to be hand washing breasfted poop out of a wool cover(inevitable for it to not happen sometimes no matter how good the diaper underneath), especially during those early days when I'm lucky to get a shower everyday, lol. I do like having a good trim wool cover or two later on, like Loveybums Jersey which is super thin and trim fitting, and a bulletproof one, like Aristocrats, for nighttime. It can help with sensitive, rash prone skin, though being in pul 24/7 hasn't bothered most of mine at all.




ETA - I found the fitted I mentioned earlier.. Very Baby Simply Nights. I think they're the most absorbent diaper I've ever tried, so awesome for overnight with a heavy wetter. I like the ones made of hemp and completely lined with fleece. I also really liked their nb print fitteds with my 7th baby. So cute and the nb size fit her the longest of any of her nb diapers because they were so stretchy.

Oh my gosh, you are going to really laugh at this. I pulled out all of our newborn diapers and we have 4 prefolds, 7 pocket diapers, 2 fitted diapers, and 3 waterproof covers I just pointed it out to DH and he was like "No wonder we were doing laundry like three times a day." Oh my, too funny. Live and learn I guess right? I think the only way we survived was G got huge like super fast. Wow, those Very Baby Simply Nights look amazing! I adore that style for night time. I think we were using pocket inserts at night and had trouble with leaks, so I'm really looking forward to using prefolds and the style of the very baby simply nights.

Wow, so after 7 kids can you practically parent in your sleep? lol. This pregnancy is already so much more relaxing and fun than our last I can see how people have lots of kids now. After my first I was like how on earth do people do this like 6 times?

Sounds like some nb diaper shopping is in order! Yep, that small of a stash would have you washing pretty often. When I first started out cd'ing I had plenty of pfs but only like 3 covers. I was constantly washing one out by hand and hoping it dried before I needed it. Funny enough, it didn't seem to be that big of a deal at the time, but I was sure glad when I got some more a few months later.

This will be our 9th, and yeah, parenting has gotten more laid back, and fun!, over the years. I guess you get better at not sweating the small stuff and better at truly appreciating the little things in life, so it makes for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone.
